View Full Version : DVD to 2 DVD's Split weird one........

The problem occurs in Disc1.
Have titles 1,2 and 3 in VTS_01.
Title 4 is in VTS_02.
Order of play is Title 1, Title 3, and then Title 4.
The first thing that shows upon DVD Play is the the Title Set Menu., i.e. Title 1, Chapter1
On the original source directory, when I click on Play Movie, the order is as follows:
Title 3 Chapter 1 (MPCC Restricted warning)
Title 3 Chapter 2
Title 4, Chapter 1 (Production logo)
Title 4, Chapter 2
Then back to Title 1, Chapter 1, and the film starts playing.
On the split disc 1, the menu shows up the same, but when I click on Play Movie, I get the dreaded Illegal Navigation error.
Now, I copied VTS_02 to disc1, and did the VTS Sectors.
The end sector in VTS_C_ADT of VTS_01.VOB in disc1 is the same as the one in the source of that chapter, so that's not it.
Also, changing the First Play PGC command to go to Title Menu didn't work (it goes there first thing anyway)
The weird thing is that I moved everything but VTS_01 and VTS_02 out of the source directory, and it works great there, i.e. the files in the source and disc1 are identical....
It just doesn't work in Disc1.
They are getting sneaky on us......any ideas?.....

Don't rip or strip any streams (if you did). When you split the movie, split the whole thing, don't choose the vobids or anything. If you do a full split, remove 1 end sector off disc 1, and then change the precommand like you said to videomanager menu or jump to title 1. Add all other small files to both discs. Add any extras if you want. I recommend following our guide here, and reading all of the posts on this thread:

It's worked on every movie so far.

Thanks Josh, but this one does not behave like a normal video. The first thing that comes up is the main menu! Then after you hit play movie, it plays the MPCC warning, and then the movie company logo, and THEN it starts with the movie. The MPCC warning (Title 3) is buried in VTS_01 with the main movie. The company logo (Title 4) is in VTS_02 (which is on the first disc). Title 3 is probably on the other disc as a result of splitting VTS_01, because that's where it gets the IN error.
The only difference between the source disk (which plays fine) and disc 1 is that the source has all of VTS_01, whereas disc1 has just the first half of VTS_01 (and gets the IN when I hit play 'movie'.
I moved all the other VTS's (VTS_03, 04, 05) from the source disc (which at this point just has VTS_01 and VTS_02 on it and plays with no problem) to disc 2, which plays fine when I jump to Title 1.........
I did notice that IfoEdit changed some pointers only by 2, i.e. from 5693 to 5691, which doesn't really make much sense.
Another weird thing is that the VTS_01 VOB's sizes (on the source) are strange. The first 2 are about a gig, the 3rd one is 77,000 something!, and then 4 and 5 are about a gig, with the last one being 333,000 something
This DVD also has 3 PGC's (if that means anything).
Also, the screen when I did the split highlighted the layer break which was a cell (11) all by itself, and not a chapter like normal............z

What exactly is the problem you're trying to fix? I don't follow what you're trying to say the problem is. The 3 PGC is not a problem, ususally you just put the split point in the middle of PGC 1. And don't strip streams or vobids. If you add the other files to both discs it should allow you to access the movie normally. If you put the precommand to video manager menu, it will start with the menu, and then go straight to the movie too without showing the warning screens too.

I'm getting an Illegal Navigation error when I hit 'Play Movie' on the Title Menu (The one that has Play Movie, Special Features, Audio Setup, etc.) So it's going to the Title Menu FIRST, without showing the FBI warning, etc. The menu is the first thing you see when you put the DVD in your player. When you hit 'Play Movie' THAT's when you get some other stuff like the MPCC rating, the logo, etc. Then it goes into playing the movie.........I didn't strip any VOB's or do anything different from the other ones I burned before.

Ah, I see what you're saying now, sorry. So it's working, and showing the stuff after you hit play and you just were wondering how to remove that stuff. for address 000000f4, is the precommand you have in there (JumpSS_VMGM) Jump to VideoManager Menu with Title-Menu in the box below it? That's what I normally use and it skips those screens for me. Or, you could change it to JumpTT Jump to Title witha 1 in the box below it, that should make the movie start right away when the dvd is inserted, skipping the other stuff.

Yeah, I could just jump to Title 1, but I kinda wanted to have the menu like normal, for audio setup, etc. I know what the problem is I think. Since IfoEdit splits the menu (VTS_01.0) into two pieces in disc1/2, the part it's trying to play (the MPCC warning/logo) must be on the part of VTS_01.0 on disc 2......I copied VTS_01.0 from the source to Disc1 and that seems to work....sorta...I'm gonna check it out fully before I post that as a solution........btw, the flick is 'Knockaround Guys'....it's pretty good......maybe you could rent it.....;)..he he..z

Ok, I burned it and when I hit 'Play Movie' just for grins (I picked chapter 1 of Select a Scene to watch it), it said I had a Parental Control violation or something like that. I did notice that the parental fields were 2 instead of 0 like on other movies I've done. I wonder if changing all those 2's to 0's would fix the problem............z
