Hi everyone.
Since now, i was always using' Koepi's laste stable build.
Heard that you can get better quality/compression using advance features like qpel,gmc,b-frame. I have searched for some guide or alt least info of how to use adv.features with the "search" button and now even more confused than before i started to search. Sometimes advices are absolutely contrary.
So,maybe someone of those guys that already used that features and got good results, please post your recommended settings,or point to some guide or thread with helpful info.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. every try rip on my cel400mhz takes about30-50 hours:(

xvid is for educational purposes only and that's the way you should start to experience the codec and his settings. Educate yourself and get familiar with the settings.
In contrast to ffdshow, there are no general settings for xvid because nearly every movie behaves different regarding every setting.
A good starting point for you are these links:
- VHQ manual by sysKin (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45746&highlight=vhq)
- "Xvid Two-Pass Encoding" Document by iago (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36915&highlight=iago+xvid+guide) and of course this very good
- lumi masking thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31301)
have fun reading the docs ;)
cheers Sill
P.S.: what do you expect... a celeron_400mhz CPU isn't Top of the Pop's:D

Wow, i even didn't know such guides exist!!! Thanks. You probably saved me a lot of time of "search" button clicks. This is exactly that i am looking for.

I think it would be a great idea that these kind of threads be set as sticky and make them stay at begining of the page or make a new kind of forum and put all these usefull threads in there so they can be easly found and consulted!

Birdy,
I'm nobody, but Still I agree with you (who wants to be nobody).
I do agree that Iago's encoding document, Lumi masking thread (for TV and Big Monitor xvid viewers) and many others should be a sticky on this forum OR they should be refered in the xvid doom9 guide.
One day....who knows?
All the best,
Carlos Santos
Im trying to re-arrange the forum to make it so there are only two stickys so that new users only have two threads to read. Hopefully these two stickys will be enough to get them to grips with XviD as well as not break any forum rules.
The lumi masking and VHQ threads are now linked in the Q&A. :) Thanks for the reminder guys :)
If anyone feels any other explanations or links are missing from the Q&A please post in this thread, and then ill add them accordingly :)
Thanks alot,
-Nic

the 'evergreen' question of blocking should be kept on the surface somehow. i know, it's not a topic of q&a but it comes up regularly (& thus it's spreaded over many threads). i don't know how to bunch it but it would worth ... any idea?
imho, a kinda state-of-the-art sticky would be xtremly useful. i mean a kinda logbook or something. on each new release a simple post from the devel would suffice. it could also
consist a kinda error listing. simply, i mean a 'what's implemented & what's not, what's working & what's not' list. i don't mean this thread should be a general discussion thread but just a bunch of info.

"blocking", are you referring to the blocking happening in dark areas? Do you not think kilg0r3's post in the Q&A is enough?
If not, what do you think should be added or what threads should be linked to in the Q&A?
Cheers,
-Nic

sorry, nic, for my fault :-( i didn't roll down enough. that topic is an xxlent starting point.

ps. what about my other idea?
Ill try to keep the Q&A as upto date as possible with new features/bugs/whats working & whats not/etc. I want as few stickys as possible.
As you noticed, not even you bothered to read the the whole of the main sticky. And I still doubt that newbies here will read it. But if we have 3 or 4 threads I can guarentee that they wont read it. And anyway when a new build is release Koepi normally starts a thread with the date in the title, so it can be discussed. Its very hard to keep upto date with exactly what works well and what doesnt, in just one sticky, but ill try :)
Cheers,
-Nic
ps
anyone else got any ideas?
