I am not a newbie to DVD ripping and encoding to most formats, i have been doing it for about 2 years now. But i have a problem and i have no idea what could have caused it.

Last night i ripped a DVD using Gordian Knot, the file it gave me was an AVI which was fine. But now I have tried to change the extension to ".divx" but it wont let me. It says "It is being used by another person or program".

I can play the file and I can make copies of it but when i have done that I cannot delete it, or edit the file name in any way. It only happens with ".avi" extensions though. I changed another film that i have from ".divx" to ".avi" but now i cannot change it back.

I have made sure that i am an administrator on the computer and that the file is not read only, and i have ended all the programs that could possible affect it in task manager but there is nothing that does. There are no gain tricklers or media players running. I have restarted the computer a couple of times.

(I am running WinXP Pro, and i am on a Local Area Network)

Can someone give me some help because i have no idea what else to do?
