I'm trying to cut a scene inside a VOB file. All I want to do is to make a compilation with the best scenes of my DVD with the same quality audio & video of the DVD.

With VOBedit I've demuxed the VOB in a .m2v file and .ac3 file.
What can I do now to put them together and to split my scene out?

Thanks in advance! Deborah.

If you want an easy to use, but a bit "buggy" program - choose Chopper XP - it's free. It can split vob file in a random place. Also you can use TMPG Encoder - it also can do this (file-mpeg tools). But in most cases you will get a corrupt header, so you have to fix it. I posted here a topic "need a program that fixes m2v headers". Find it - and you will get an answer how yo do it.

I see, you said that you've just already demuxed vob. Now you can use a video editor, such as TMPG Encoder (it must support MPEG-2 format) and split your m2v file in a random place and also merge. Also you can use something like HeadAc3he to split sound and fix sound file header. But read the first paragraph - I've placed it first because I offer you the better way. You can edit vob without demuxing. You will encounter the problem with corrupt header too, but probably you will not have to do useless steps. Also, you can multiplex sound with video in TMPG Encoder.

If you have further questions, ask. My answer may seem chaotic, sorry...

Hello, a big welcome to the 1st I believe girl in these fora.

u can cut the scene virtually in the authoring stage by making it a chapter and prohibit it from playing by not including in the playlist if u r working with Maestro or by ommiting its cell in Scenarist.

Slig,
I tried file chopper xp and it's really good for random cutting. I also read the thread you told me but it' s very difficult for my knoledge. So far I will keep my favourite scene as .vob file!!!
Thanks to everyone!

Deborah!

Deborah! It's not as hard as you suppose, but I understand you. All I can offer is the program, made by my friend programmer - which fixes headers of .m2v files automatically - you just indicate the file - and all is done! You can give your mail and I will try to send it to you as soon as possible(much work, you know). It's about video.
What about sound - I wrote already that the easy free program exists for fixing .ac3 headers - HeadAC3he. You just indicate source file, then choose in the dropdown target menu - source - and that's all!
When you want to merge ac3 files you can use the command copy /b (i hope you read it in the topic "need a program that fixes...").
It's easy, just try. And we'll try to guide you in creating exactly what you want.

I too wish to edit out scenes from vob files. My aim is to actually extract music scenes from a variety of vobs (from different dvds) and to author a dvd with menu selection for a dvd music video compilation. Now i would like to keep the original quality and ac3 sound and hence thought of chapter extractor as the above, however also want to keep the subtitles which at a later date can select on and off.

Any suggestions of a easy way to do this and whcih programs would u advise. Help especially splitting out the appropriate subs with the appropriate scenes would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, not Chapter Xtractor, but Chopper XP! This software has limited capabilities, but it can help you if you want to cut a random scene from a *.vob file, cause it provides the timeline.
The easy way to extract (demux) audio from dvd is the program named DVD2AVI.
The easy program to rip anything from dvd is SmartRipper. To rip subtitles you must know that their location (ID) is 0x20 - 0xdont't remember number.
Audio ID's: 0x80 - 0x88.
You can choose what you want to rip if you will click the tab "stream processing" in smartripper.

Also there's a problem if you're cutting vob file in random place - the header of the file becomes corrupt and you have to fix it manually. There's a program for audio - Headac3he - read previous postings. For video - find the thread where I sent Deborah. Also if you need to fix only m2v files (video) I can send you a program which can fix these headers.

If you wish to understand what you're doing - there're a few guides on this site which describe dvd structure. I advice you to do so.

Just a suggestion:

You can use DVDDecryptor and only select the chapters/cells ids you are interested in and then demux those only. In the settings, under File Splitting you can choose to split by Chapters/Cells etc. This will produce multiple m2vs and ac3s for the options you have selected.

Then you simply re-author all of your m2vs and ac3s using DVDMaestro. It will merge your video files automatically. For the audio, you need to create a sync audio track to merge all of the ac3s into 1 ac3 file.

This might not work if the video parts you want aren't broken up evenly in chapters/cells/etc, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the replies,
forgive me if this seems simple but i really am new at this.

When i demux chapters either with decrypter or ripper and try to import the media into maestro i get the message: 'low delay bit in MPEG2 sequence in turned on (=1) it should be off (=0) for dvd use'

What is this and any idea how to turn it off??

Stale thread, perhaps, but I found an easy way to do what deborah is attempting. I use DVD Shrink, in the Re-Author mode, using that program's trim tool, to do what amounts to a radical trim -- down to just the scene I want. I then "backup" and it produces five files:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_1.IFO
VTS_01.1.BUP
VTS_01.1.VOB
The desired scene is in the VOB, obviously, with audio synched properly, and I presume with the correct headers. I just dump the other four files. I do that for each scene in each DVD I want, to a separate folder; renumber the VOB's according to VOBedit [join files] criteria (VTS_01_001-n.VOB) in the order I want, put them all in one folder, join using VOB edit, and create a new IFO set with IFOedit. It's worked great so far, at least when all the sources have the same kind of audio; if the audio type is different, it can get a bit more complicated.

I used DVD Shrink to copy just the Ending Credits ... the Dirty Vegas Mix from Madonna ... plays at the end ... of Die Another Day.

I got what I wanted using ... it ... DVD Shrink.
