View Full Version : cannot playback xvid coded by devel. version(17.02.03)

Hi everyone.
I usually use xvid(last stable version)for all my codings.
Never had any problem with that.
I heard that development version may give you better quality/compression if used with appropriate options. I installed it, but all encodings are not playable!!! player(bsplay,mplayer2,wmp8) crashes while trying to play the files. I tried different codec settings.: first, enable b-frames (2/150/100) and notheing more, tried only gmc&lumi without qpel and without b-frames and some other combinations.Also tried previous unstable version(don't remember which one)- No matter what i try - the files are unplayable. Maybe anyone could know what the problem is.
P.s. i use ffdshow as decoder (don't know if it is related)

Install the XviD Decoder from Nic (230203) and activate Use XviD in ffdshow.
Perhaps that helps

What do you mean with "the player crashes", do you get a special error message?

Player crashes with the following error:"memory could not be read...".
I'll try to install Nic's decoder when i come home
But Does Nic's Xvid decoder comes instead of Ffdshow. So if i install this decoder could i use Ffdshow ?

AFAIK, nics decoder replaces xvid.ax, and leaves ffdshow alone. I think you will need to uncheck all xvid boxes in ffdshow to use nic's decoder.

When you check the box "xvid" and "use xvid" in ffdshow, the decoder of nic decodes the video and all the other nice functions like postprocessing or noise are still done by ffdshow. Of course Nic's Decoder works together with ffdshow.

I've had player crashes with xvid developer builds. I used ffdshow and most played fine. Using Nic's latest decoder plays back everything I've encoded myself. if you have a file that doesn't have gmc or q-pel, i've changed the fourcc code to dx50 prior to finding nic's latest decoder which worked well. The divx decoder is incompatible with xvid gmc and q-pel though.
