Output resized?!

Sorry if there has been this question, but i didn't find it(let me know the link if there is).

The problem is: i have mpeg(vcd format) and want to encode into XViD, using VirtualDub. mpeg is 313x240 but XViD is 352x240. Why? I don't use resize filter. Or it should be so that it resizes itself?

I'm kind of beginner, so don't laugh very loud :)

I personaly never did that before. I already converted xvid to vcd but never vcd to xvid.
But I just did a test for you on 2 clips:

1-input Pal vcd 352X288 25fps and the output file was also same resolution.

2-input ntsc vcd 352X240 29.970 fps and the output was also same.

So i didn't have any resizing problem!

You've got it : MPEG1 and MPEG2 have a flag to say if the video is encode anamorphic or not. Your MPEG1 video is encode at 352*240, but resized at 313*240 while playing, so after opening with VDub, you have to resize to 320*240 before encoding. ( 320 to be mod16, you could try 312 but may have some playback issues )

Use Zoomplayer. Keep pressing "r" until you are satisfied.

Yes, this works fine.

Could you explane this mod16 thing(mod16 means that it is divisible by 16, right?).
But tried 312x240 and 320x240, both are fine at the moment(8 sec test file)

I use BSPlayer, there i can set aspect ratio to 4:3 and then its fine.
