It can be weird but it happend to me and to some of my friends.

When we launch a xvid video and pause it, then launch an other xvid video in an other player (2 wmp here), it happenes that the second video was very clear, no noise, no block, more than when we play it alone.

Does someboby experiment the same thing ?
It may comes from hardware, overlay, codec, I don't know.

Thx

Byee all

It may comes from hardware, overlay, codec, I don't know.
I would say it comes from the overlay : the first wmp uses the overlay, so the second one can't use it. that's the difference between the two windows. But to understand why the use of the overlay degrades the quality of the picture, we have to know :

* What is your video card
* Which codec you use for playback ( FFDShow ? Xvid ? DivX5 ? another one ? ), and which settings they are set to.

You could also try with another player ( ZoomPlayer for example ), to see if the same codec ( and same settings ) is used in the two movies, or if there is a difference.

I have :

Gf4 TI 4200

the last Koepi's build

and the video quality is improved on the 2nd video, that's very strange.

I'll test other players.

how can we see which overlay is used by wmp ?

Thx

Many nvidia drivers have the overlay saturation set to 130% by default so the colours look all wrong. It's really quite annoying. Have a look around in the drivers.

Display properties -> settings -> advanced ......

I just tested this and the second one was much brighter. So I checked my drivers and all sliders were at 100% so this leads me to the conclusion that nvidia overlay SUCKS. So use MPC (or buy non-nvidia) and set the overlay to one of the renderless ones another bonus when doing this is the "Go to" in the navigation works.

Yes i just test the WMR9 video renderer on WMP Classic and the video quality is very much better than with the system defaut video renderer.

Thx to all for this, now i can really enjoy my videos.

Did you check both the overlay controls and the display colour controls? I have had no problems quality wise with my Ti4200's overlay with 42.00 drivers. My previous ATI card looked exactly the same.
