I would like to see something that developers have encoded. Is there a place I can download it? I figure if anyone is going to have the best looking rip it would be the person who made the codec themselves. Ever seen any snips from the 5.0.3 guys?

The DivX 5 codec is closed source, if you found any sourcecode anywhere it would be aquired illegally.

XviD however is open source, you can download the sourcecode from CVS, instructions how to are at www.xvid.org

i think he was not talking about source code but rather about movie snippets. He got a point there. who else if not the developers of the codec could make a close to perfect encode?

He would like to see some clips encoded from divx/xvid developers :)

I don't know if the Divx developers/testers (BTW, there are many people who are doing beta testing for them, wich aren't employeed, Doom9 is a good example) encoded that but you could download some stuff (e.g. Warcraft III trailer) from Divx.com.

I would assume they did it, or someone did it with the best settings as it would be rather stupid to encode promotional videos with inferiour settings.

I dunno, I think developers spend more time fiddling with the code then doing highest quality rips. The best encodes will come from people that test the codec lots or people that encode all the time.

I bet iago's and Koepi's (Koepi's a perfectionist ;) ) rips are good. I very rarely ever filter mine and just do a two pass with the best options available at the time at as close to 640xXXX as I can get on 1 CD.
