Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie when it comes to writing DVD's. I just bought a Pioneer DVR-105 2 weeks ago and have been reading this site to get all my knowledge. I know it's a pain to get the same question twice but I couldn't find it in the forum anywhere. I have a huge DVD collection and I've probably backed up 30 DVD's so far (out of around 300) so I can watch the backups and store the originals away. I stumbled across a problem, figured out a few ways to fix it and was wondering which was the best way or if there was an easier way to do it.
I backup just the main movies using DVD Decrypter, DVD2one and Nero 5.5.10.7b on WinXP Pro. These movies look perfect and the whole process takes roughly about 45 minutes. However, I was watching Jason X the other day and, in the middle of the movie, I had about 3 seconds of The Matrix play on the DVD-R. Jason X was a recent backup so I still had the original rip and conversion on my hard drive and checked them with IfoEdit. The rip with DVD Decrypter was fine. The corruption was in the conversion by DVD2one. I understand that it's probably the fact that I haven't defragmented the drive in awhile and it's probably just ghosts corrupting the new files (since they use the same filenames in the same folder). I was wondering if I need to defrag every time I back up a copy and delete it or should I use a different set of folders each time to copy the files to?
My computer is:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8 GHz
1Gb Kingston DDR2700 333MHz SDRAM
Pioneer DVR-105 DVD-R/RW Drive
Western Digital 40 Gb HDD (Master with only the OS and Programs)
Western Digital 120 Gb HDD (Slave - D:\=80Gb Partition for mp3's and DVD decrypting/converting - E:\=40Gb partition for program install files, pictures, videos, etc.)
I use DVD Decrypter to decrypt all the files from a DVD to D:\DVDRIP. Then I use DVD2one to extract the main movie to D:\DVDNEW. Then I just copy all my new files to DVD-R using Nero then delete the files in both folders, empty the recycle bin and start over with another movie.
Does anyone have any advice to make Massive DVD backups more efficient with my system? I'm interested in other people's methods BETWEEN backups. I do a LOT of multimedia projects and do everything I can to keep my PC running in top shape without having to run Defrag every day. I use my 120Gb drive for all my work and for storage so the 40Gb doesn't have to be defragmented all the time.
I hope I didn't put too much detail in this post. Believe it or not, I left out a bunch of stuff that I didn't think mattered!!!
