Hi-
If you check in the Downloads area, you'll find the MPEG 1/2 encoders. The best one, which supports multiple pass encodings, is CCE and is very expensive, but you may find others that will suit you:

Hi-
OK-I misunderstood. I thought this was different from your question before. Well, I've never converted VCD to AVI. If it's MPEG2, then you can use VDub. But since it's MPEG1, I don't know how or if you can use VDub for this. Can anyone else help out?

VirtualDub (regular version) will not open MPEG-2 directly. You need VirtualDubMod for that. Both versions will handle MPEG-1 without problems though. Just open the file in VD, set up your final codec, and hit 'save AVI' Actually I think Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org) has a specific guide on converting VCD to AVI somewhere in the guide section - you may need to check the pages named 'old guides' or 'document overview' in order to find it though.

In addition, DVD2AVI can deal with MPEG-2 streams; I use Gordian Knot and DVD2AVI to do that with MPEG-2 captures from analog.

I get it!
thank u for helping me so much~
finally I notice that a mpeg1 file can't be converted to avi using 2passes,when it meet the 2pass,Vdub crashes
and I find that using Xvid to deal with video,divx3.11 with the audio gets perfect result.
