Learned Colleagues:
Checked InstantCopy's prowess with interlaced video using "World Cup 2002: All the Goals," which has been my interlaced video "poster child." Resulting video was fine...is it a match for Gordian Knot making a "Smart Deinterlacing" avs script for CCE? No, but it's close. Since you can buy InstantCopy for $20 ($40 plus a $20 rebate), which is 100 X cheaper than CCE, I can categorically state that its quality is far better than 1/100 of CCE's quality.
This weekend we start with STNG: Season One to see if we can tame that beast...I intend to "scrunch" the files with InstantCopy, then extract the episodes I want, merge the VOBs, demux with BBDMUX to m2v and audio and then use DVDMaestro to re-assemble with selected episodes and customized menus. I like to put 4 or 5 related episodes on a DVD-R, for exmple, my "Alpha and Omega" disc will contain "Encounter at Farpoint" and "All Good Things..." which covers 4 episodes.

UPDATE: March 5
I did exactly what I mentioned above to get "Encounter at Farpoint" off of the Season 1 STNG DVDs. There was only a brief moment during the very beginning sequence showing the planets in the solar system that you could see some jumpiness. This went in a few 1 second bursts for about 10 seconds at the very beginning. After that, everything was great. I shrunk this entire 90 min episode down to 2 GB and it looks fine. This InstantCopy work around for this troublesome video set should please even the most discerning of us out there.
