hi folks,

i am making DivX/XviD movies for a long time now, but now i feel ready for the more advanced methods. I want to expiriment with matrices, but i don't really understand them.

- what is a matrix?
- what does it do?
- how to build a matrix?

i searched the internet, but i couldn't find any understandable documents. consider me as a newbie on this front. do you guys know any tutorials on this?

tnx!

The forum search (extend search to use more than the last 30 days) will help you find a good explanation.

just take the blue pill (or was it the red pill?) :D

Search XVID and Avisynth forum for custom matrices. You'll find quite nice posts from MfA, trbarry, ReferenceDivx and others. trbarry is developing an Avisynth filter called DCTFilter to improve compressibility, but not even he fully understands its consequences :D

I would highly recommend buying and reading a book called Video Compression Demystified:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071363246
It contains a much clearer explanation of what quantizer matrices are, and how they work, than any I've read on the forum.

Enjoy.
