Ok, I'm not a total newbie to this - But I'm fairly new at actual nitty-gritty (IFO) file stuff.
Here's what I did:
I ripped LOTR - disc 1 as an experiment to test DVD2ONE. I followed the instructions (In the DVD2ONE fourm) to save space for the menu, and then use IFOUPDATE to update the IFO file (there is only one) and then copied the files back and made a working DVD5. (looks decent too)
In this whole process I had made a copy of the ripped DVD so as to not have to re-rip it. However, when I used IFOUPDATE to update the IFO files in my copy, it somehow changed the original (which, for some reason I didnt copy - i just copied the VOBs to my backup location).
Now, I can go back and get the original IFO (VTS_01_0.IFO) off the DVD, but I want to understand how I would get back if I couldnt or didnt want to.
So, I have the original files:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
and VTS_01_00.VOB
through VTS_01_07.VOB
and the "changed" VTS_01_0.ifo from my "dvd2one'd" set.
I know I need to use ifoedit here, im just not sure what to do. I suspect I need to put it all in the same folder, then open the VTS_01_0.ifo. From here Im lost - I want ifoedit to "fix" the locations so it uses all 7 .vob's again. How do I do this? I can see that the .ifo has all the info for chapters etc in it....
Is it the VOBextras, then what exactly? I dont want to make things worse...
Thanks for helping out a newbie - Im just trying to use this mess as an opportunity to understand rather than follow guides/formulas...
