Picture is "Jumping" ?

Hi,

I made a Divx movie with XviD, using tutorial which is on doom9 homepage.

...but...

I have a problem with picture. It is not running clearly. For some time (about 5 sec) is well, but then it just jumps for about 0,5 sec forward, and so on all the movie...
(example: if there is flying a plane, it suddenly moves to forward position, -it looks like tjere would missing some frames...)

Can Anyone Please tells me what can be wrong ?

Maybe your hardware is not capable of keeping up with the encoded video. Maybe you used 1pass encoding and the bitrate dropped that much that some frames got dropped. Maybe you set frame drop ratio != 0.

All wild guesses as you're not providing the information necessary for helping you. Read the sticky topics in this forum again.

I Have Pentium II 300, 128Mb of RAM, HD 80Gb, vodoo 3...

I have used 2 pass encoding, (following the instructions in the tutorial), but my settings for encoding were:

GLOBAL:
motion search precision =6
quantization type =mpeg
four cc used =xvid
maximum I-frame interval =100
minimum I-frame interval =10
disabled lumi masking and interlacing

Quantization:
Min I-frame quantizer 2
max I-frame q 31
min p-frame q 2
max p-frame q 20

TWO PASS:
I-frame boost: 20
enabled discard first pass
high bitrate scenes 25
low bitrate scenes 10
bitrate payback 120
payback with bias

ALT. Curve:
Curve agression: medium
high distance from average: 100
low distance from average: 200
enabled automatic minimum quality: 50
enabled automatic bonus bias calculation (but i can't set the number)
max bitrate: 10000
max overflow improvement: 60
max overflow degradation: 60

Other settings are not so important (credits..)

I dont know what could be wrong. It is true that computer is very slow (it is encoding one movie 35 hrs), but the result shouldn't any different if I would use 2GHz computer.

If I get movie from somewhere (like Star Wars II -2cd), it is running without any problem and with HQ picture...

Sounded a bit like you were using B-frames with packed bitstream but you don't use B-frames, do you?

BTW, you have to make your mind up whether you use alt.curve (in which case you can forget about any 'high' or 'low' setting) or traditional curve compression in which case you don't need 'aggressive', 'medium' etc. Please just use high=0, low=0 and not alt.cc. Most people find this superior to other ways of curve compression.

Try again without iframe boost. I had those results on slow computers with that enabled, without it it works flawless.
And I agree to Tee, don't use altCC. Use linear scaling.

300MHz is way way way not enough to play back XviD/DivX at resolutions close to 640x480.
Make sure you have all the postprocessing disabled in your ffdshow/xvid/etc decoder options. I'd call a P3-500 or so the minimum for smooth playback. More, if you enable postprocessing.
