hello,
i have divX video. and now i want to join it with an audio which i have as wav currently.
when i select the compression in virtualdub i can only encode it with mp3 from 224kbit and more.
192, 128 and lower doesnt work and i get no sound at all.
anyone knows a solution to this problem? thanks!

Don't try to encode to MP3 in VirtualDub directly! I don't know wich codec it's trying to use, but obviously is wrong. You must encode audio to MP3 with Lame for example, before muxing with video.

a nice program called avi-mux gui http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-Zeug/AVIMux%20GUI/Pre-release/ that will allow you to mux your video and mp3 together. I agree, I almost always use a separate encoding program whether it be besweet or lame to do the mp3 encoding. I like using LAME 3.94 alpha 11 preset medium which gives a pretty low bitrate (120-140) and sounds good.

thanks for the tip, but i still got the same problem.
with mp3 over 224 it works.
with mp3 lower 192 i have no sound.
could this be a problem with my machine only?

Yes, It's possible. May be you should try to reinstall some codecs.
For muxing you may use also Nandub or AviMux. They both support VBR MP3 muxing. May find them on doom9.org

use besweet to create the mp3 and save yourself a lot of trouble.

its not the mp3 itself. its that divX with added mp3 below 192 doesnt work.
the mp3 alone works fine!

If I understand correct, mp3 works alone but not in DivX file. If you use Winamp or other player for plain mp3 (not Windows Media Player), then WMP is the problem. Try this: install DivX 3.11 alpha. It comes bundled with fraunhoffer mp3 codec, after that you sholdn't have a problem. I have tryed this in similar situations, and usualy helps.
