Actually YES!
You must purchase a $2000 DTS encoding program. You can then open the DTS file and save each track as a WAV file and then convert to AC3 or whatever.
I think the answer should have been YES, but with considerable expense.

I don't know if there's a encoding program doing that.
The only professional DTS encoder program I know is surcode dvd pro,
but it produces a padded .dts files from 6 .wav files.
Dunno any other program doing the contrary, from a given .dts six descreet audio streams :confused:

What's a "padded" dts file?
If you are going to nitpick, then yes it is possible. Get an iviaudio.ax which is able to decode dts to a six wave channel. Record each of them using the analog outputs of your sound card. Make a list, import that list in Besweet and encode to AC3 (or downmix with the downmix plugin to MP3).
My only problem is (besides I don't have the correct iviaudio.ax to try that) how to synchronize those six wav streams. That must be possible somehow because those guys who convert audio dvd's do that all the time.

We're talking about coversion, I guess digital conversion, not analog recordings.
@ moon1234
I'm wondering what's the name of this encoder software dts -> wav.
I now there's a project on sourceforge.net but it's too early to talk about it.

It should be possible using the graphedit method to use the intervideo filter to downmix from a dts file to a wave file, but you'll need the dts source filter. There's a great big thread in the dev. forums on that topic.

Hi, could anyone explain that procedure (DTS -> Ac3) ?
Theoretically, a Ac3 produced from DTS (at 384 k/sec) would be much better than a original Ac3 track with that bitrate.
If this has been already explained sorry didn't find it.
Best regards.

AC3 isn't digital?

To decode DTS to 6 PCM use Hypercube transcoder or for more fun there is a new utility called azidts that is based on BeSweet. You will then need to add a wav header to the PCM files. Next you will encode to AC3 with BeSweet or ACID or whatever.
All Digital conversion and yes it uses the Intervideo filters.
AC3 is all digital. It is the old term for Dolby Digital.

yes we can do whatever we like now!!!
So next step is extraction and conversion from SACD and DVDAUDIO :-)
What about DTSSource->IVIAudiodec->WavDest->FileWriter ?

@mf
download the dts filters from gabest, http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/test.rar
download hypercube
http://hypercube.is.dreaming.org
and i think you have what you need.

What I said was just a suggestion. I don't intend on transcoding DTS, but thanks :).
