Do you need the DVD-Rom if you are ripping files to your HD before you Burn them anyways? I ask, because I have 2 HD's. One is my current 40gb WD 7200/2mb cache. Yesterday I bought a 120gb WD special edition 7200/8mb cache. I have to leave the 120 alone on the IDE channel to get the full speed/potential. I wasn't sure if I want to scrap 40gb of HD space, so I was thinking of getting rid of my DVD-Rom, and installing the 40gb as slave to the DVD-R/RW. Is this a good idea, or will I still need my DVD-Rom?

No, it is not necessary to have both DVD-Rom and DVD-burner. But programs like DVD-Decrypter that can make DVD-5 copies on the fly will benefit from it, as will DVDXCopy for the same reason. If you want a region free drive then I recommend that you keep the DVD-Rom as the regionfree drive and don't patch the burner. In that case put the two HD's on one IDE channel and the DVD's on the other.
