Sorry didnt know where to post
Anybody with the same problem ??
Everytime I click to select a avi file(not all avi, just a couple this has happened too), even right click, the whole desktop/explorer crashes and restarts.
Anyone with a fix ??
Thanks.
PS, I cannot even delete them or move the files cus if i press it just once explorer crashes, also i have founda way to delete but like you have to open a program, then within that program go to open and when the mini explorer comes up to search what files to open, i can go and then delete it, but other than that there is not other way, at least that i have found

Have a look at this. I have never had Explorer crash on me though, but I have had the problem mentioned and it does fix it.

Do you have this problem with every avi file ?
because I had a similar problem with a few XviD encodes. The problem came from the file "xvid.ax" in windows\system32. I think this file was corrupted on my computer and I had to uninstall all xvid stuff from my computer, boot in safe mode and delete this file. Then I re installed koepi's XviD-17022003-1.exe and nic's standalone decoder and now everything's OK.
If that doesn't help you can try to disable the "preview" window in the explorer.

no it only has been with maybe 8 avi files in the past month. also preview is off, and i have a xp tweak where if i click on a file and it isint 100% complete, it wont preview it. So does anyone have any suggestions, should i just reinstall xvid codecs?

Try this.
Goto View and Choose Details and untick Dimensions
Now windows will not be trying to access the avi dimensions.
Solves my delete problem anyway.

This is something that happened to me in the past due to some unusual resolution (317x213 for example). Explorer is crashing because it is attempting to display that video on the top left part of your windows as a mini preview.
Try to enable classic windows (instead of web content) in explorer (tools-->folder options).
If you want to watch the movie, try to re-encode it in a normal resoltion like 512x384.

I would do an SFC /SCANNOW, sounds like you may have a corrupted/
missing file.
