View Full Version : Avimux GUI, muxing CBR mp3

Maybe Alex has an answer

I've encoded a single avi with dual channel 160Kbps CBR mp3 (using Vidomi internal audio management, lame).
After that I've tried to "cut" it with avimux using "last standard" options (reclist,openDML,250KB,500ms preload) used with others avi+mp3 (but with 128Kbps mp3). Please note that the audio was in the avi, not external.
What I see during the play is choppy playback at the beginning (first avi) and a stop (application seems to hang, zoomplayer/bsplayer) if I jump over the application "timeline"; no such a problem if I use the original avi.
Do I use wrong parameters?

Thanks
marco

hi,

i think i've read somewhere that avimux doesn't handle cbr-mp3s properly, i just can't remember where i read that.

anyways, what sampling-rate does the file have? 44100hz or 48000hz? if it has 44100 you should use vdub/nandub instead, avimux can't handle those.

MP3-CBR should work. If it doesn't, have AVI-Mux GUI create VBR headers (use "force MP3-VBR" in the advanced settings)

You should always use VirtualDub, NanDub or preferably VirtualDubMod for accurate results.

VirtualDub for an MP3 source? lol

VirtualDub can handle MP3 if it is CBR.

As stated above, one better use VirtualDubMod, to handle all kinds of audio: MP3 (CBR or VBR) and AC3.

Does VirtualDubMod finally avoid cutting AC3 frames into 2 parts?

Sorry for the delay, I was away for work.
Thanks Alex, I'll try to force the option (and post results, of course).
For dj, of course, I've used VirtualDubMod from the beginning (and modified virtualdub and nandub...), but ac3 management is better (I mean simplified) in avimux, with results much more portable (and, believe me, in terms of constance on different hardware platforms, we have done a "quite" wide test on the problem on another site); so, I'd like to use less tools as possible, then I hope to have avimux correctly processing non ac3 audio.

A presto, ciao a tutti.

marco

p.s. I'm not sure about sampling frequency of the avi, I'll check.

Honestly, I don't know what you're talking about. I used NanDub earlier, and use VDM now to cut files with AC3 audio, no problems so far.
Still, in VDM there is an option called "Enable AC3 Frame Mode". May be this is what you're looking for.
