View Full Version : bbMPEG cutting Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv short

escapade
24th February 2003, 03:28
Using 1.1.2 build 1.

Last two attempts have produced around 30 minutes of 74 minute movies. 'Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv' is full length played through media player as is 'Encoded_audio_1.mp2', 1:13:57. I believe bbMPEG uses these two files to create 'bbMPEG_Muxed_File.mpg', which is only 31:37 in length (great audio and video - and in sync, but...). Have tried removing and re-installed complete DVD2SVCD package with no effect.

Why is bbMPEG truncating movie, and what can I do to fix?

Trying to save space, but you are of course correct - after all I'm not an expert (obviously).
Here is last night's log file from third attempt - same results ('Encoded_audio_1.mp2'is 1:13:57 sec, 'Pulldown_Encoded_Video_NTSC.mpv' is 1:13:57 sec too). Assistance is greatly appreciated.

I can almost be certain here is your problem:

Min. bitrate: 1900
Max. bitrate: 1271
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (No borders, encoded as 4:3)

The problem is in your bitrate settings. Look how your Min is higher then your Max. This is confusing BBmpeg.
Do you have Min AVG checked? If you do uncheck it.
What are your bottom bitrate settings?

Do I see that you have Image Quality Priority set to 5? If you do raise that to at least 17. I use 22 myself. This isn't the cause of your problem, but a sidenote on image quality.

Wow, good catch regaurding the bitrate. I was looking past the encoding stage. The strange thing is that I have saved my settings months ago and loaded them prior to the attempts. I just loaded the same settings file into DVD2SVCD and the bitrate is set to the following: Max 2400, Min 1900, MaxAve 2250, Min Ave unchecked (I have used these settings with CinimaCraft using sigle pass VBR, Image quality priority of 5 and Q. factor of 5 based on an old post re:settings and have been quite happy with the results, but I am willing to try something else). I will re-attempt and abort once into encoding to look at the log file and see if something weird is going on regaurding what I enter in for bitrate and what it see's, or if I just screwed up somehow.

markrb
26th February 2003, 03:41
Drop your min to 300 and let DVD2SVCD decide the bitrates for you.
If you keep the Min that high then DVD2SVCD cannot do it's job and as you have seen can become confused.

OK, I set the bitrate to Max 2400, Min 1900, MaxAve 2250, Min Ave unchecked. I double checked, and am 100% sure of these settings. I ran until encoding started and aborted. This is the Log File! Why is Max Bitrate 1499?! Even stranger is that I used the same setup file and converted the same IFO files from my HD, but the Max bitrate changed from last nights 1271 to todays 1499. It would seem to be a bug?

Changed Min bitrate to 300 and ran again. bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg is now 60 minutes long, should be 64 minutes. Close. Just for kicks, I used TMPGEnc, loading the dvd2svcd project file.d2s as the video and Encoded_audio_1.mp2 as audio. This created a full length SVCD, without chapters, but decent. What I am trying to do is to make backup copies of some kids animations for my little girl. She has learned to open the DVD case, and I don't want to loose one to scratches so am looking to make 'working copies' and archieve the originals. This problem exists on JJ Jet Plane and Winnie the Pooh - Most Grand Adventures. I tried Cinderella II yesterday and it worked fine (even though the Min bitrate was set to 1900, which I have now changed to 300 in my setup file). Log file from last attempt below. Still confused.

Before you go to nuts please try this.
Play the original DVD in WinDVD or PowerDVD and see what the actual time is.
Often times the IFO and the info on the box can be wrong and sometimes by a good bit.
There is a chance you have the whole thing.

Are you by any chance doing an Mpeg-1 VCD instead of an Mpeg-2 SVCD?
That I can't tell from the log.

The 'shortened' version I get is indeed truncated. The movie stops prior to the end, I even burned .bin/.cue to an RW just in case PowerDVD was going nuts. The end is cut off.
I tried using TMPEnc 2.58.44.152 instead of CinimaCraft 2.5, everything else the same, using DVD2SVCD and both of the DVD's I am having issue's with came out full length. Confusing because CCE encoded video is full length when I play using PowerDVD. So... I am wondering if re-installing CCE might resolve this issue. I don't think the quality is as good with TMPGEnc. Perhaps it's my fault due to encoding settings.

I am wondering if re-installing CCE might resolve this issue.
It has been known to help in the past, but I would go one step further and un-install and re-install everything to be safe.

OK, un-installed CCE and DVD2SVCD, re-booted, installed CCE, re-booted (for good measure?), re-installed DVD2SVCD. Same results.
I guess now I will try to revert to an earlier version of DVD2SVCD and see if that resolves the issue, only because I have been using DVD2SVCD for quite a while now and never before had this issue.
