We should all go out and buy the dvd2one ......its not going to break you guys.....cost of a game.
The achievements of this 100 kb bit of s'ware is amazing. I remember when I used to produce machine code for the c-64 where efficency & compact code were important things.
The pinnacle boyz are rich enough.....they need some competition.
I can see where warez can bring down the price of s'ware ...but if you use the software a lot you should buy it.
I am a believer in helping the new kid on the block ....remember when IBM had its clone wars, in the 80's?. I bought my first DELL '286-12MHz in 1989 to play Wing Commander and Ultima 6. Now DELL is a premium standard in PC's...not considered a mere clone.
I have paid for my copy of DVD2One and I am proud of it. Now I expect Erwin et al to upgrade and improve it.

Pirating a product has never reduced that product's price in the long run, several examples of this are, commercial software (on the average, prices of utilities, operating systems, et al. are increasing), games (running around $49 USD now, this is as high as its ever been), CDs (again, running around $17.99, I remember when most CDs were $14 or less).
What seems to happen instead, is the industries lure everyone in with low prices in the beginning (CDs, CD-ROms, etc.) and then raise prices once the standard is established. In fact, its happening with DVDs now. Once the customer base has been established (and its beginning to mature), prices will slowly inch their way back up.
Simple laws of economics. Piracy doesn't have enough impact on demand to affect prices.

Also, if you refer to: http://biz.yahoo.com/p/p/pcle.html
You'll see that Pinnacle Systems is yet to turn a profit. If you want to buy your software out of pity, great, but most of us what to buy our software out of merit. The plain sad fact of the matter is currently, IC offers way more features than DVD2One, at less cost.

Int21h, straightforward as ever :)
As far as I'm concerned, I'm a bit disappointed by both. DVD2one has, at least with its 1.0 version, a good commercial focus on "copying the movie only", but suffers from quality flaws (and now I'm dead laughing when I see they'd rather spend time on trying to protect their software rather than trying toimprove quality).
Ic on its side is everything but a 1-click software if you want decent quality and I got severe quality loss by sticking to the default quality settings. It took me a loooooong time to tweak extras one by one until I found acceptable quality levels for both the movie and the extras...
I would give DVD2one a bit more credit for a clearer message (backup your movie). PInnacle wants to make people believe they can backup a 7GB disc on a 4.3GB disc in a click without fine tuning and without losing quality... it won't work...
Those tools take all the fun away from the DVD reauthoring process anyway :(

I agree that neither of these pieces of software are really ready to replace the human brain. For the majority of titles out there, its easier to simply use IfoUpdate and a new video stream, however, for the few troublesome titles (mainly multi-episode, series type stuff), I've found IC is a good working solution to a problem which had no simple solution before.

Are we going to talk about bread again?
I like bread, I just don't like to pay for it twice.

@int21h
Pay attention b4 u make comments....that same web page you refer to.....shows the officers at Pinnacle collecting well into 6 figures each year.
You may realise since Enron that the game is to pauperize the Company whilst enriching onself.
That's my point.
Pinnacle has been around a goddamn long time and should be making a better product than Instant Copy.
I expect Erwin will bury 'em, his coding is lean and mean...soon to become a green (back) machine.
hey Erwin....gone public yet....?When's the IPO? 8))

And maybe when you have half the degrees and qualifications those officers have, you can expect to make the same, check out the going rate for a CEO sometime. This does not change the fact that the company is not profitable.
If this does become a 'green back' machine, then he will for sure want to make sure he's properly licensed the technology from the MPEG-LA, something he so far has failed to do, while Pinnacle (through VOB) has done.

LOL...
Man u guys crack me up...
Lessee here...they have all these "qualifications" but they can't get Pinnacle to turn a profit.
Nevertheless...Pinnacle pays em big bux.
Maybe int21h....if u had a biz...u would hire big qualifications for a big price and watch ur biz lose money...good for u...ENRON again.
I run several businesses.....and big qualifications aren't nearly as good as the guys who can actually be worth their salary.
AGAIN my point is ERWIN and the gang will make DVD2One better than Pinnacle stuff...simply because they NEED to. That is why we should support em.
Pinnacle can continue its money losin' ways since its shareholders share the cost....poor sods who prob. bought shares 'cause Pinnacle CEO has "qualifications"......and the CFO promises pie in the sky.
It seems that running at a loss is OK ....once u're "qualified" to do it.....lol...and paid 6 figures as well in the process.

On the contrary, if you checkout the projections, this should be the first year Pinnacle turns a profit.
Here let me try this neat game too... "I am the king of England.." .. Did it work? Did I gain any credibility? Welcome to the internet.
Bottom line, you buy whatever you want and I'll buy whatever I want. I'd rather spend the money on a bottle of Skyy Vodka and call it even.

Urrrm.
this is all getting a bit emotiv chaps.
lets chill a bit. and if thats not possible E-mail each other because i'm sure I like the majority of readers here dont give a damn about who gets paid what or what qualifications it takes to run a successful company.
everyone has an opinion but IMHO they are getting a little off topic.
P.S.
Newsgroups are the best places for flamewars...
