I would like to make my own chapters for a home movie of mine made from DVD to SVCD. How do I choose where the chapters are? What if I already have the file encoded in SVCD? Or do I need to do this before I have the final product?
I'm going to need a step-by-step guide to do this. If anyone can post a link or just tell me what I need to do, it would be great.

You'll enter the chapter points when you author the SVCD. VCDEasy is one of the programs that allow you to put chapters on your discs.

Doom9 have a guide that will explain to you how to do chapter point with VCDEasy. I think you can get to it
Doom9 -> Guides -> VCD/SVCD -> VCDs & SVCDs with chapters
If you want to create a simple menu screen with still picture, then you can use Nero to generate this screen for you. There is a menu tab and in that, there is a checkbox labeled "Enable menu". If you check that, the menu tab will be enable, and you can choose different layout of your menu. I think Nero support 6, 8, or 12 thumbnails per menu page. If you choose 6 thumbnails/page, I guess all you have to do is cut your SVCD into 6 parts, and drag & drop into Nero. By default, Nero will choose the first picture frame to create the thumbnail, but you can always change it by:
- hightlight the part you want to change the thumbnail
- rightclick mouse button & choose "Properties"
- select menu tab, and you slide to the picture frame you want
- Hit OK, and that picture will be your thumbnail in your menu.
There's another way, to create menu with VCDEasy, but this involve you to:
1. Create your own JPEG picture that will represent the menu.
2. Go under VCDEasy Tools section, and create a still mpg using this picture. This still mpg will be the first you have to be imported. For this still mpg, under "Interactivity" tab, you have to select "Wait infinite" so you menu page will be there forever until to select a button.
3. Cut your SVCD into whatever many parts you think you need, and imported into VCDEasy.
4. Back to the "Interactivity" tab, under "Key pressed interaction pressed" select "Event Disabled" to all 4 drop-down.
5. On the right hand side, select "Use Numeric Keys" and select "Overwrite this default assignement". The area underneath "Use Numeric Keys" should be enabled, and you can edit this area by the pull down arrow and select the video that corresponds to the number on your Menu Page. Keep doing it for the other video parts. For example, if you cut your SVCD to 6 parts, then you should do select 6 times (Key 1,2,3,4,5,6)
I know it's lot of works, but then again you're creating a home movie from scratch?!! :-)
There's another guide in doom9, that show you how do menu with TSCV, but I have never try it before.

Can't you avoid the step of cutting the movie up into pieces for the second method by setting the menu to instead jump to a specified chapter? You can create chapters via the chapters tab using timestamps or some predefined methods like X chapters or chapters every so often. So just import the main movie, split it into chapters, and then configure the keypad to jump to specific chapters.

.3. Cut your SVCD into whatever many parts you think you need, and imported into VCDEasy.
C'mon man, you don't need to cut anything into pieces.
Just select where you want to have a chapter, by time or by frame, and that's all there is to it

Hi
I used TSCV http://www.dvdrhelp.com/sefy/?id=chapters1.html for the purpose and it works very well. I also wanted to make the menus for my VCD. After doing al the necessary things at the MenuGen Tab of TSCV, I click on Creat Menu and after the menu's for different chapters have been created, it promts me to save the file as mpv for still menus or as mpg for motion menu's.
Here is where I get stuck. Even after saving this file, the file does not get saved at all... and I get the error on log window as Starting VCDxBuild process...
