View Full Version : Does it matter if IDE is mobo or add on

HeY i was readnig through this & you guys say you should have the dvd-Rom as a master ... on its own IDE channel.

Does that mean that it should be the only device on taht channel or just that there can be a slave & just have it (the dvd-ROM) as the master?

additionally i have a Promise 100TX2 ata pci controller installed & was wondering if my dvd-rom was attached to this ... isntead of my mobo's ide controller would their be any speed/quality differences

ok...
it does not matter if you connect another device to your IDe bus where the dvd drive is on, as long as it is NOT the hard disk you are ripping to. so if you have e.g. your DVD drive as master and a CD RW as slave, this will not pose any speed issues. (i'm assuming you are not trying to rip a dvd and burn a cd at the same time :-P)

anyway, i've no real experiences with seperate IDe buses, but as long as it is a decent one i don't think it'll make things significantly slower either!

Hmm okay ... i have my DVD-ROM set has the Slave rite now becuz i was taught always to ahve cdrw as master ... And as a slave it rips aabout 4~6x.

i have a liteon 166 ... i thought these would be faster ... that's all

i have pretty much the same config. Secondary IDE master DVD-+R/RW, Secondary slave LiteOn 166 DVD-ROM, but I am only getting 2x rip speeds with DVDdecrypter on win 2k.

I checked and it is using Ultra DMA mode.. anything else I can do?

With a Liton LTD163, DVDdecrypter rip until maximal speed, that is 7-8x in a DVD9 (about 15-20' to rip), and 14-16x on DVD5 (less than 5' for a movie, 16x (21MB/s max) achieved with no-crypted DVD)

I have IBM Harddrive at primary master ; LiteON DVD & CDRW at secondary master & slave, all in UltraDMA.

I Got a LTD-166S as Master & LTR-52246S & Slave
ON the other channel is a WD60JB & Pionner DVR-105.

I get about 2-6x dvd9, nvr ripped dvd5 yet.


I guess its normal then.

mmm, what about copying CDs on the fly? are there any issues if the two drives share one IDE channel :confused:
