AVI files

i'm new to this forum so i'd like first to say hello to everybody,second i would like to ask for help on one matter,so here's the deal.I'm newbie in making divx but thanks to your site i learned more than enough to make one,so i did it ,i made few divx movies and everything was ok till i made Matrix movie designated for 2 cd 's so after a 6 hours decrypting with the gordian knot i got one file of 1.4 GB which i wanted to split of course to 2 parts so i can record 2 cd's with high quality,than the problem occured,i used AVI split program to do that but after extracting first sector ,somewhere in the middle of it computer went dead,just restarted itself without any warning?!!second part of the movie i extracted without any problems so i watched the movie again and same happened when i reached the same spot of the movie,computer restarted without warning,can anybody tell me how to bypass that part so i can get 2 avi files??

hi and welcome to the forum

you can bypass this step, or rather use an alternative method using VirtualDub or one of its derrivates. i would recommend VirtualDubMod, but it will probably be easier for you if you use Nandub. All these programs can be found in the downloads (http://www.doom9.org/software.htm) section

One more thing, if you used VBR MP3 you need to use Nandub to cut your AVI. VirtualDub doesn't like VBR MP3's and it will produce AVI's that are off sync. Im not usre if VirtualDubMod will also work with VBR MP3.

yes it does! when loading your movie files you have to check "Use Nandub vbr mp3 settings" though.

it was very helpfull.i've lost 35 seconds of the film but who cares:))
still i don't know why this happened but i think that i know why,this is funny so read it:))
so i borrowed Matrix DVD in videostore and when i came home i've noticed that my videostore owner is "bright" because he put a sticker onto dvd with videostore name and number:))
so i think that during the decrypting process dvd deviated for a second enough to cause this anomally:)
but whatever everything works now and thank u once again

which is what you just did...

and a sticker on the opposite side will not affect the video... more than likely what happened is either the layer jump didnt jump properly or there is something wrong with AVI file.

If you still have the VOB files on your HDD, scroll to that point on in DVD2AVI and see if it crashes or if it looks okay. If it does, then check it in GKNOT. if it looks okay in GKNOT, try the AVS in either WMP or VDub/nDub. If you encoded credits separately, try the *_Movie.avi file and see if it looks okay there.

Somewhere along the line, something happened to corrupt that piece of video.

unfortunatelly i 've erased movie from the hard drive so i'll never know what happened, but anyway thank u all for quick and efficient help!
