Hi,

I wanted to rip my dvd into vcd format. I used DVD2Avi to rip the audio into wav format. But the result is the audio is much softer (even i turned to the last volume of my speakers).

Is it because I downmix it to 44.1KHz?

Please help.

Thanks

It's due for the AC3 format. It's normal. Just use a NORMALIZER or use Besweet to normalize and convert it to MP2 (for VCD, right?).

Most AC3 audio tracks are encoded on -27 dB dialogue level. That's good for movies.
The lower level results from 5.1 to 2.0 downmix!
To compensate that attenuation you have to apply 14 dB (18.5 dB with LFE) pre gain in BeeSweet DS2 downmix. Then you don't need any normalization.

Numbers for
- Compression = NORMAL
- Dialogue Normalization = ON

Result: -27 dB dialogue level in 2.0 track.

I would also just De-multiplex with DVD2AVI. Don't let DVD2AVI do the downmix for you. Do that in BeSweet as Frank suggests.
