View Full Version : Instant Copy Problem Movies

I may be wrong, but I'm beginning to think certain movies present a real problem for Instant Copy. I have seen the same problem cropping up from time-to-time (especially related to the vobsrc.ax crash) for some of the same movies. It might be nice to start a thread that identifies problem movies. We can determine if anyone got them to work and if they had any work arounds. At the least, please speify whether the movie is NTSC or PAL.

For love nor money I cannot get Unfaithful NTSC to copy. It usually crashes somewhere in the 80% range. I have tried it using the image (using Daemon Tools) and Files from HD, and with "Online Transcoding Database" unchecked. Nothing seems to get the job done!

As soon as you hit start it goes through the 10 to 20 min testing video quality 5 phase analysis correct?

that's why i suggested earlier we should keep track of what titles work properly with instacopy and what don't for example terminator2 ultimate edition will copy but will have repeating scenes this is a seamless branching title which is probobly the cause. Another title JohnQ is infinifilm the movie comes out fine and using infinifilm works but after viewing the info it won't go back to the movie.

Yes, Mr. Bass, it goes through all the testing phases. It's 88% finished with the transcoding process when it pitches the familiar vobscr.ax error. Thus, it works for roughly 2 hours 45 minutes and with 25 minutes remaining takes the nose dive.

I agree, ^Spike^, that's why I decided to start this thread. I found someone else who got to the same phase in the transcoding process with Unfaithful (NTSC) and had the dreaded vobsvr.ax crash. I began to think it may be the movie and not something that can be corrected within IC.

It will be interesting to see if anyone can do an IC backup with Unfaithful (NTSC). Anyone who has had great success with IC, it might be worth the challenge...

@aaron10

Are you using Windows 2000 or XP on your machine?

I have had the same problems with Unfaithful, and I am running Win2K.

I DID get it to work successfully if I unchecked EVERYTHING but the movie (and one other title which automatically checked itself when I checked the movie). I think there is probably one title which is causing the crash. I was watching it last night and it finished encoding the entire movie and then crashed at the point where (as I recall) it was supposedly encoding title 7 of 9...

It seems to work better for me on WinXP than Windows 2000.

Of course, that ends up defeating the "real" purpose of Instant Copy, which is to copy the entire DVD. I'd much rather wait 13 minutes for DVD2ONE to make a copy of the movie than for Instant Copy to do the same thing but in 10 times the time. I know there is a video quality issue but for the most part I'm pleased with the output from DVD2ONE. Of course, if you only have one program then that may be the way to go w/ some of the problematic movies.

Quad, you applied the registry hack so you can select/deselect the movie, right? I haven't done it yet. Where does the movie selection ability show up w/in IC (i.e., which tab and what area)?

@aaron10

It comes up in the "Customized Size" dialog box. The checkboxes for all the titles are uncheckable after the patch.

Note added later for clarity: By uncheckable I meant they can be now be unchecked, where before they were disabled.

Here is one:

Tomb Raider NTSC (Widescreen Collection).

InstantCopy retail 7.0.0.91 - seems to play menu and movie fine.

The only problem is in the extra features there seems to be some minor navigation errors... eg. if I choose "Stunts" then try to skip to next chapter it locks up the player, whereas the original DVD goes back to the menu.

The Matrix NTSC - seems to work perfect in everything I tried.

Update on Unfaithful.

I was finally able to backup the entire movie and all extras except
the trailer and the other film previews by unchecking titles 4 and 5.

I don't know why those were causing a problem, but that did it for
me...

I could only get to 60% on the main movie even with 30% for all
extras, but at least it's all there...

I saw someone else (besides Quad) who had a problem backing up Unfaithful (NTSC). It got to the same spot (roughly 88% completed) and pitched the dreaded vobsrc.ax error, so it definitely appears that the problem, at least in some instances, is related to the movie being processed.
