View Full Version : Problem: wrong automatic subtitle selection.

Hi. I was wondering why does DVD2SVCD sometimes selects the subtitles without asking anything else (of course I have previously activated that option in the subtitles tab) but sometimes it appears a window to confirm subtitle selection?

This has happened several times even with the same DVD.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind having to confirm subtitle selection, in fact I prefer to do that. You see, the problem is if I don't have to confirm the subtitles selection, most times the wrong subtitles are selected and worst than that sometimes I get an access violation error during subtitles extraction...

At first I thought maybe something was left behind in some directory, from a previous encoding job, that was telling D2S what subtitle to chose, but I made sure that I was deleting everything and I realize now that this happens randomly, I don't see any reason for it!

I won't say this is a bug, because I'm not sure, but it sure is weird.
The only thing that I might add is that this has happened with DVDs when there are more than one file for each subtitle language, for example, one for the extras and another for the main movie, and the main one is the last one in sequence.

Is there any way to avoid this?

This is news to me. I don't I have ever had a dvd where dvd2svcd selected the wrong subtitles. If you don't act within 2 minutes after the subtitle preview pops up, dvd2svcd auto continues.

Thank you for your attention.

As I've said this doesn't happen all the time but if at least I knew why it happened at least I could do something next time I wish to encode a movie.
You see, I love DVD2SVCD so much because I can start it up and go away, watch some movie, drink a coffee, whatever, and I know when I get back home, the job wil be done. This is just great ;)
But if I get home and I see I have a crashed PC or a movie with wrong subtitles its rather annoying...

Maybe this happens because of the way I do encodings: I always rip half the chapters so that I will end up with 2 CDs. Perhaps D2S doesn't like searching for the subs in the midle of the vobs, I don't know how this subtitle searching/selection works, so it's just an idea...

Anyway even not being perfect, DVD2SVCD is the most friendly tool out there for newbies like me and even the pros. Great work!

Nobody and nothing is perfect. But I believe that dvd2svcd is the most perfect and powerful tool to do DVD to SVCD conversions. :)
