EclCCE: Adds ECL support to CCE 2.66/2.67 trial

Hi,

here is EclCCE, an utility that adds the load/save ECL (Encoder Control List) functionality and e few other useful new options to the CCE SP 2.66/2.67 trial versions. ECL support is added "seamlessly", you simply use the standard CCE menu items and toolbar buttons for loading and saving the ECL. There also is command line support for automatic ECL loading/encoding/exiting. Command line support only is available for earlier CCE SP versions. See the enclosed manual for more information.

EDIT: unfortunatly it's not working for me.

When I try and save a .ecl nothing happens at all, except the program becomes none responsive (windows beeps when I try and click on it). I had to kill the program, but it did save the .ecl file.

When I tried to load the .ecl file nothing happens at all, but at least CCE doesn't freeze.

Using 2.66.01.07 trial on windows XP.

Grr. It's working for me in XP.

Please do the following. It should have created an EclCCE.ini file in the directory where you put EclCCE.exe. Edit the [EclCCE] section to add an

Debug=1

entry. Run EclCCE again and try to save an ECL. You will have to click OK/Cancel now to get out of the dialogs. Let me know where it hangs.

It's weird, when I enabled Debuging it worked fine. I had to cancel out of the menues, but didn't encounter any errors or hangups on loading or saving. When I disabled debuging the same errors occurred.

It's incomplete by a few lines. When I loaded the complete .ecl, that I saved in debug mode, it loaded the file but resulted in the same unresponsive state as before.

I tried the Alt-F4 to close the program and it did respond with the normal "Save .ecl?" dialog, so the program is not totally unresponsive. When I selected "no", the program closed and windows played the "critical stop" sound.

EDIT: I also noticed that sometimes hitting Alt-F4 'unfreezes' the program, and allows me to continue using it as normal. I checked the .ecl after doing this and it appears complete. I'll have to play around with it later.

I have uploaded version 1.01. The only changes are two new command line options: -batch combines /encode and /exit (added to be compatible with CCE 2.66 retail) and -nocancel hides the Cancel button in the encode progress dialog. Also command line options can now be indicated by either hyphen or slash.

I should also mention that right now custom 3:2 pulldown settings are not saved/loaded to/from the ECL, just the check state of the 3:2 Pulldown checkbox. Maybe I'll add support for the 3:2 pulldown settings in a later version if there is demand for it.

Oh, and in case you wondered: yes, it does load/save the VBR Bias setting from/to the ECL and applies it even if no VAF file exists yet :)

Ok, i tested the latest version of EclCCE (1.01) and it's a HIT :)

It worked like a charm, with CCE 2.66.01.07 in WinXPSP1.

The test movie was "Saving Private Ryan". I loaded EclCCE, and after indicating the path to CCE, it opened it.

Then i feed it with the avs, and tried all sorts of configs, saving in between the ecl file, then exiting and opening it with notepad.
All seemed perfectly fine.

Then i made a one pass with Q60, and it went smoothly.

Thank you again RB for this great tool. :)

EDIT1: Now, when you add 2.67 support, i will be here to test it :D

EDIT2: I for one fell that this software is of such importance for the correct use of CCE (computer not powerfull enough to make all the passes in one stroke, so the capabilitie of saving ecl file is a great advantage for me), and it seems to work without bugs (at least for now :D , that the MODS should make this thread a sticky.

Great software. I just have a problem. With every item loaded, i fills up memory with about 50-60 Mb.
What happens is that after 20-30 items loaded, I run out of memory.
The software reports some strange avi error and freezes.

I use version 1.1, with CCE 2.66.07

Any insight on this?

I tried to load a avs script of the full movie "Saving Private Ryan" (it has 243772 frames) and it only loads the memory till 26MB.

I find that the size of movies is not the problem, it's the number.
I get serious problems after about 20 or so movies.

Make a quick test to check if you get the same behaviour.

I very much doubt that EclCCE is the culprit here. Just perform this simple test: run CCE directly, not through EclCCE, add your many items. Does it give the same errors now?

Before I start thinking about earlier versions, let's try to narrow down this problem.

- Are you using the latest EclCCE v1.1?

- When you saved the ECL and started encoding, where did it freeze? Did the encoding dialog come up at least?

- When you load the ECL, where does it freeze? When you click the CCE window, does it make this "bing" sound?

- You can start encoding without using EclCCE?

RB: When i run just CCE and add many movies, the problem does not occur.

I did some more tests regarding this:
The same problems also occurs when i Save a ecl-file.

Example:
I add 15 files by drag and drop
I save the project as a ecl file
The memory usage goes from 300 MB to 700 MB
I reload the project i just saved
The memory load rises again 400 MB over one GB

Really no one else with that problem?
Could it be some kind of driver problem?

Sorry, I can't reproduce this problem. I just did what you did here (XP SP1), added 16 small clips by drag & drop, saved ECL. Memory usage went from 311 to 321 MB. Exited CCE, ran it again and loaded ECL, memory usage went from 319 to 326. Just like without EclCCE.

What OS are you running? This is bizarre. EclCCE does not dynamically allocate/free any memory, so it can't be a memory leak in my code. Also, while you are dropping files into CCE, EclCCE just basically sits in the background and does nothing.

I cannot understand the problem myself...

Here's my setup
Win XP Pro
P4 @ 1800 MHz, 512 MB Ram

I gave you some misleading information, it's the the memory that's running out but the page file beeing used up.

So when i start CCE, about 200 Mb of the Page File is being used.
(can be checked in the task manager)

With every movie opened or save, the page files grows about 40 MB.
With a max. Page file size, the error comes after about 20 Movies loaded or saved.

I have the impression that every time one item is loaded or saved during the flickering, the memory is used. It seems like another copy of CCE is started, but memory is not freed up. But thats just my impression.

I really hope someone else has the same problem and that it's not just my setup.

I, too, was talking about the page file usage (monitored it in task manager). Let's do this test:

1. Run CCE without EclCCE
2. Bring up task manager, leave it open and watch memory usage during the following steps
3. Add your files
4. Double click on the first file in the CCE window
5. Click the Video, Audio and Quality Setting buttons (in this order) and close the dialogs immediately.
6. Click the "Setting" button to the right of the Input files combo box, double click the item in the new dialog with the listview.
7. Close the preview window that comes up, close the file settings dialog, return to the Encode Settings dialog, close it.

Repeat step 4-7 for each file. Do you see page file being used up abnormally at any time?

Well, it already does so, always. EclCCE.exe will not return until CCE has finished (just use WaitForSingleObject() on the EclCCE process handle).

I've the same problem as Mikel here.

W2k with 512MB RAM, EclCCE and CCE2.66.01.07.

I've loaded some avs-files (actually two, via avisynth v2.0.6, mpeg2dec2.dll) and everytime a new pass starts, CCE itself eats up additional ~64MB and the paging-file inceases about 128MB, too.
After a few passes all memory is gone and avisynth can't decode any further frames, passing an error-frame to the CCE (wich is then encoded)
CCE is keeping all the memory until I close it.

How could this happen? Is that maybe a "crack"-protection?

Is EclCCE *opening* the avisynth-file, when the ecl get's loaded? I'm asking this, because the file-length [frames] is updated after changing the length in the script and loading the ecl afterwords.
Perhaps that opening the problem. :confused:
I'm still searching for a maybe-bug in avisynth in conclusion with mpeg2dec, since sometimes after opening an avisynth-file, not all ressources are freed again (some part of avisynth hangs up)

That is a well known CCE bug !
Add ResampleAudio(44100) [for avisynth 2.0.x, not 2.5] to every avs you're loading into CCE and the memory hunger will be stopped.

OK...there seems to be some kind of problem with ECLCCE.
By loading or saving (when running CCE through ECLCCE) huge amount of memory are eaten up.

I tried to exclude a driver problem, so i did some tests by rebooting into safe mode. The memory problem was still there.

So it's not a driver problem.

BTW, i am using Win XP Pro, SP1
Maybe the GFX-Card is related to it, its a TI4200 based card.

After detailed testings, the problem only occurs when CCE is running through ECLCCE. CCE alone works fine.

Because of the problems with ECLCCE, i went back using version 2.5 which runs fine and can load and save ECL-files.
I am looking forward though when the memory problem is solved.

Some things to correct: I was using avisynth v2.07 and EclCCE 1.01. But you didn't change any major things in v1.1, did you?

Hmm... this is weird.
I've now done some tests without EclCCE, and no error occurs.
The program is still eating more and more memory, but after a time it is freed again. (paging-file is still increasing, though - must be the W2k caching algo)
So, perhaps there is no memory-leak with (or without) EclCCE, but there still seems to be a problem with the avisynth-scripts.
All works fine without the EclCCE, but with EclCCE after saving and loading a bit, avisynth can't decode anymore.
(I did some tests with EclCCE v1.1 too now)

I have absolutely no clue why this happens. Perhaps this is a general problem with avisynth-scripts in CCE.
But definatly CCE trys to get the number of frames when loading a src-file, so it must open the script(s).

could you perhaps add a delay (editable via .ini?) between adding file#1 of the ecl and adding file#2?
I guess avisynth has some problems with parallel frameserving of several files. (And parallel frame-serving would occour, if file#2 is opened before file#1 is closed).
This problems come up quicker, if you add some denoisers to the script. Perhaps a bug in avisynth of being not able to wait long enough for a frame... (internally throwing an exception instread of just waiting for the plugin to serve the frame)?

BTW, the memory-hunger seems to stop now: My 1.2GB pagefile is full all the time and CCE is kind of self-regulating it's memory to 380MB (of 512). So, I'm not quite sure if the ResampleAudio(44100)-line is necessary. (but I'll try that anyway)

Just doing the tests for Mikel (pagefile is full: 1.2GB and CCE-Usage:380MB):
"Unrecognized exception in line 3" <- That's the mpeg2dec-line. The plugin doesn't seem to have enough memory.
Same problem with all the other files btw, all cannot be decoded by avisynth (aka mpeg2dec).

I'll try, if this also occurs without EclCCE now.

So, it must be avisynth what has a memory-leak.

Adding ResampleAudio(44100) doesn't help, btw.

CCE RAM-usage seems to be ok.
Pagefile increases on:
- ecl-saving (when using EclCCE), for each file a little bit
- ecl-loading (when using EclCCE), for each file a little bit
- generally when activating the preview (going to settings to add chapter-points etc.)

...and there seems to be no work-around.
Any ideas??
Should we post this problems at the avisynth-subsection of this forum? Perhaps the programmers there are already aware of that memory-leak.

The memory-leak does not occur in CCE v2.50! I've used the same avisynth-script.
After showing the preview under 'settings', the pagefile-usage goes up a little bit, but after closing the preview, it is freed again.
(In v2.66.1.7 the memory is not freed afterwords)
So this is a problem of CCE v2.66.1.7 (or perhaps the crack)

I suspected something like that and that's why I asked you to perform the steps I suggested here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46664&perpage=20&pagenumber=2#post270526). The reason that you and Mikel thought it's related to EclCCE probably is that you never (or rarely) browsed through the CCE settings up to the chapter and encode range settings where this preview window comes up. But EclCCE always does this, it basically opens up all the CCE setting dialogs and reads/writes the controls in there and that's how the ECL is being read/written.

As for the source of this problem, I really think it's what you mentioned last ... I definitely do not have this problem ... :rolleyes:

Now what I could do about it is to provide a switch that will prevent EclCCE from opening this particular dialog. This would of course mean that encode range and chapter lists will not be read/written from/to the ECL. How does this sound?

For me it's a good choice, because this two setting are typically performed in other manner (range with avisinth and chapters with authoring program)

The chapter list in CCE of course does not really create chapters, this is a DVD, not an MPEG2 feature. It's there to, so to say, "serve" an authoring program like Maestro. Chapters can only be set at I-Frames and all the chapters list in CCE does is to tell CCE that it should create I-Frames at specific points so that authoring software can create a chapter break at this frame at all.

But if a chapter is pointed to a not-I frame, what happens?
Surely, if you go to this chapter, you have a very slightly delay before the frame is displayed (it will be searched the next I frame after that point), or not?

A chapter cannot point to a non-I-Frame. That means that if there's no I-Frame at the point where you want to set the chapter, the authoring software will set the chapter at either the previous or next I-Frame. IOW, your chapters will be off by up to size of GOP.

OK, new version 1.1a is out. You use /nochapterlist on the command line to work around this "bug". You can also make this setting stick by adding

By disabling chapters, the memory problem disappears.
I just dont get it that on one PC, the problem occurs while on another it does not.
(both PCs use Win XP Pro with 510 MB RAM).
This is a very strange bug from the CCE side.
Maybe it's also only in the trial version.

I think the normal setting for VBR in the ECL is 'video_type=4'. Sometimes EclCCE expects 'video_type=16' otherwise the encoding mode is set to CBR. This effect not always appear.

If i save a ECL with EclCCE, sometimes the 'video_type'-value is set to 4, sometimes to 16.

Discoboy, Chatwalker: this should not happen with the latest fixed 1.1a. Please download again to be sure you got the latest version. I am unable to reproduce this here.

Could it be you are loading an ECL into 2.67 that was saved with v1.1 (without the a)? Then this could be the problem. Set encoding mode to VBR and save again or create a new ECL. There was a change from 1.1 to 1.1a that I didn't document (sorry): CCE 2.67 has two new encoding modes and these new encoding modes were saved with video_type values in the ECL that were previously used for VBR and CBR. I changed this in 1.1a so that the video_type values saved from 2.67 are 2.66-compatible.

@RB - good news, the issue is fixed after downloading 1.1a again. Strange thing is the original file I had in properties indicated it was ver. 1.1a but both the .exe and .dll files were dated 5th Mar. The new download again indicates ver. 1.1a both the files are newer and dated 7th Mar.?

It has a very nice new bitrate tweaking feature, letting you limit the bitrate at the end of the video from a certain point, so for example CCE no longer wastes precious bitrate on end credits. You can now also modify the VBR bias prior to the encode when no VAF file exists yet.

In regards to the bitrate tweaking feature, it seems to be good in theory but flawed in practice (through no fault of your own).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what happens is that the vaf is created with the bitrate allocation information according to the average bitrate you input. Then the bitrate tweaking feature creates an upper limit on the max bitrate value from the time you specify until the end.

The bitrate allocation for the non-credits part of the film is unchanged, so you simply end up with a smaller file and lower quality credits.

So in order to get a fullsized video stream you need to input an inflated average bitrate to begin with.

The formula for adjusted (i.e. inflated) average bitrate would be:

=space for video on disc - post-tweak credit size
----------------------------------------------------------------
space for video on disc - pre-tweak credit size

X

pre-adjusted average bitrate

Now there are 3 problems with this:
1.There is an assumption that the additional bitrate will be allocated to the 2 parts of the film (credits and non-credits) in the same proportion as the pre-adjusted bitrate. If it allocated more to the actual film part then the video stream will be oversized.
2. Post-tweak credit size calculation is imperfect. It equals the length of credits (which you know) multiplied by post-adjustment average bitrate for credits (which you don't know but with a low max bitrate of say 2000 kbps you can assume that the credits will be basically CBR 2000 kbps). So no biggie there if max bitrate is low.
3. The pre-tweak credit size is impossible to calculate without running an encode of the whole film. That's a bit of a problem.

Maybe I'm this is all wrong, but anyway the point I am trying to make is that unfortunately it's hard to make full use of the bitrate tweak.

Correct me if I'm wrong...Very happy to do that :) CCE is smarter than you think, you will not end up with a smaller file. First and foremost, when you adjust the bitrate of some area in the Advanced VBR Settings via the "Local Bitrate" settings, CCE will also make sure that the video still complies with the Global Bitrate settings. That is, it will automatically adjust the rest of the movie depending on the local bitrate lowering/raising. As a side note, keep this in mind when reading the "Getting the best out of CCE" guide ... anyone ever bothered going back all the way through the movie after tweaking away the gray areas to see how many new gray areas popped up? :)

Anyway, you can easily verify for your self. Encode a small test clip (like 30 seconds or so) at around 4000 kbps average, go into Advanced VBR settings and adjust the second half of the clip to have a max. bitrate of 1000 kbps. Watch the bitrate graph for the first half go up.

I actually did run a couple of tests before posting. Basically I just ran the output of a 7 min sample through bitrate viewer to see if the average bitrate of the file matched up to what it should. But it didn't.

I think the problem was the nature of the test I used...in particular marking the credits point too early in the file. Because when I just redid the test with a later credits point, the average bitrate was correct.

And having fiddled with the bitrate allocation settings before (just in testing, I've never actually used robshot - no need as I keep the bitrate high) I should have known better.

If you start EclCCE with idle priority (e.g. "start /LOW eclcce.exe" from the command line), then CCE will run with that same priority. But I will make it an option in the INI and the GUI in the next version.

I am using CCE 2.66.01.07 in conjuction with DVD2SVCD 1.1.3b2, Avisynth 2.08 and EclCCE 1.3a on XP Home.

I have set the encoder tab to eclcce.exe and opened the eclcce file once to create the inf file required.

But am still recieving this message.

Unable to find cce window. Error 126 the specified module could not be found

With CCE telling me that it can't Save ecl file.

Any Input would be appreciated.

OK, in DVD2SVCD, go to the Misc tab and make sure the "Process priority for all used programs" option is set to Normal or Idle. Try Normal first, if that doesn't fix it, try Idle.

I've only just noticed that eclCCE is here to provide DVD2SVCD support for CCE 2.66 Trial, so I downloaded eclCCE and went through the installation and Usage portions of the eclCCE pdf. I must be missing something though, because every time DVD2SVCD gets to encoding, CCE says

Can't save ECL file.

and in the DVD2SVCD log

Executing Cinema Craft Encoder.
Error cannot find CCE project file.

I've got the CCE path pointing to eclCCE.exe, which is in the same dir as CCE 2.66.01.04 and eclCCE.dll, and the eclCCE.ini is set for cctspt.exe. It does the same thing if I run just eclCCE and load the AviSynth_Script_file.avs DVD2SVCD created. I'm using Keep Interlaced and an Interlaced Source CCE template made while reading the eclCCE pdf. The DVD2SVCD log file also says it has to perform IVTC based on the DVD2AVI project file. Any idea?

CCE 2.66.01.04 is not supported by the ECL functionality in EclCCE, this is in the readme. You need to use 2.66.01.07 at least. See http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50240&perpage=20&pagenumber=2#post290438 for an unsupported workaround.

EclCCE doesn't give CCE tthe correct task priority!

I'm using this nice tool together with DVD2SVCD where I have choosen the priority ILDE.
EclCCE gets this priority correct, but CCE always runns as normal!

EclCCE should check which priority itself has and take this priority also for CCE.

For DVD2SVCD it is more difficut to implement this that it is for you because the autor can get the correct handle of EclCCE by using ShellExecute, but if he wants to reach CCE behind your program he needs to search the correct CCE window! If the user has multiple instances of CCE running at the same time this is much to difficult so you should implement this small feature in your program.

Strange. On my system (XP and 2000), when EclCCE is run with idle process priority either via the "Start" command or DVD2SVCD, then cctspt.exe runs with that same priority (idle). Did you actually go into task manager and check this? This is also what the MS docs say. That is, a process running with idle or normal priority inherits it's priority to child processes.

I wanted to request saving of the 3:2 pulldown detection settings. You mention earlier in the thread that you might work on that if there is demand...so I wanted to speak up.

(My dream is to write a program that would take a DVD2AVI project and use the field flags in it to instruct CCE exactly how to encode a hybrid source. The hope is that this would allow one to, with CCE, create an exact copy of a hybrid source -- something currently possible with DVD2One and the like, but at the cost of image quality.)

Well, there are so many buttons and settings in the 3:2 Pulldown dialog that it makes my hair hurt :) It might be nothing more than a very tedious task to gather all the settings and read/write them from/to the ECL, problem is it will likely take a lot of time to develop and debug and right now I'm really short of time. It would help greatly though to have an ECL with 3:2 pulldown settings saved from a full CCE version. Maybe you could look around to see if you can get your hands on such an ECL?

Anyway, I'll start looking into it in the near future, can't promise anything yet, sorry.

Thanks, I understand. That dialog is a nightmare. I think you can ignore all the "Phase calculators" buttons though. And on the left, there is a duplicate set of 10 buttons that can be ignored (A:1 2 B:1 2 3 C:1 2 D:1 2 3) -- these do the same thing as the (1 2) / (1 2 3 4 5) buttons above them. (Or you could ignore the (1 2) and (1 2 3 4 5) buttons, but I'm guessing you'd rather ignore 10 buttons than 7 :)).

I'll look for an ECL with 3:2 pulldown detection settings -- probably difficult to locate, though.

It's easiest to merge the two ECL files together. Open any of the ECL files in Notepad and paste the content of the other at the bottom. Then start CCE manually, load the combined ECL and start encoding or use the command line facilities described in the EclCCE manual.

In AVI2SVCD mode when Process Priority is set to IDLE in DVD2SVCD and when DVD2SVCD starts EclCCE I get this error:

I've had the same error when launching "EclCCE". If you say "Okay" to that error, "CCE" launches normally. What I've done is exit and re-launch "EclCCE". It doesn't happen on the 2nd launch (regardless of priority IMHO). "CCE" and "EclCCE" seem to work normally, despite the message.

I had inadvertently delete the "PATH" statement from my system variables and think the problem might have been related to that since I haven't had the problem since I restored the "PATH" variable.

I guess the CCE startup timeout should be much longer or manually set up in options tab.

One small request for something that is a 'standard-feature-of-CCE'. Could you make it to where the job window accepts drag n' dropped .ecls like CCE does? Also, if it's not too much work, a 'beyone-the-standards-of-CCE' features such as ability to drag n' drop more than one ecl and have them appended? CCE can only take one ecl at a time, so this would be yet another cool thing your app does that CinemaCraft didn't bother to include!

I think the GUI is much more intutitve now - you tell me. I guess I should announce this version in a separate thread, or you may add links to it in from the EclCCE page...

Two small issues:

1. How can you specify a relative time to the CCE timecode 01:00:00:00. You only allow six digit timecodes? It works correct for me only when setting the CCE timecode to 00:00:00:00
2. The create_new_vaf in the ecl file seem to have flipped logic? (0 = true). If you fix this, I must update too.

Thanks! Not sure I can look at it anytime soon, I'm using DVD2SVCD rarely these days.

About the time code: well, like I wrote in the manual, the credits start time is relative to the CCE time code. That is, if you know that the credits start at 1h 40min 3sec in "human time" and CCE time code is set to 01:00:00:00 (hh:mm:ss:ff), then what you need to write to the ECL is 02:40:03 (in hex). And I simply left off the frame number from the credits time code because I felt this was accurate enough :) and saves some typing.

As for create_new_vaf: it's based on the GUI layout :), made it easier for me. There are two radio buttons in CCE that control this, button 0 (the upper one) says create new VAF and button 1 (the bottom one) says use existing VAF.

Yeah, I guess SVCD is not the hottest format anylonger
(but, I have to get rid of them piles of empty CDR's on my shelf).

I think what confused me with the credits timecodes was that they are shifted two digits down compared to the cce timecodes (cce 0x01000000 == credits 0x010000). Anyway, my plugin should work ok then. (I may change to specify absolute (human) time for the release version.)

OK, I put my hand up for doing the dumbest thing :rolleyes: . Upon opening EclCCE 1.4c where it asks you for the CCE Trial executable, for some reason I got distracted and put the EclCCE executable in there instead. This resulted in a program loop giving errors that it could'nt find CCE every few seconds, and the only way to get out was to reboot. Because I didn't know what I'd done, everytime I went to start EclCCE after that it resulted in the same loop as the executable was set in the ini. I ended up deleting it all and extracting from the zip again. Very silly thing to do, but perhaps not allowing EclCCE to be selected might be an idea?

On the assumption that most people install CCE in the default folder, you could also check those paths (newest CCE ver first) and auto setup the ini path if found (otherwise let user browse for it). Custom Technology\CCE SP Trial Version\cctspt.exe

"The above filename is invalid" is not an EclCCE error message (it is not anywhere in my code). Is that the exact error message? Maybe that's a DVD2SVCD error message? What is the caption of the error message box?

1.4c works well so it is 1.5 bug. My opinion.

- DVD2SVCD starts EclCCE 1.5 (CCE 2.67.00.10)
- DVD2SVCD adds xxxx.avs
- DVD2SVCD saves yyyyy.ecl
- DVD2SVCD changes yyyyy.ecl
- the error occures when DVD2SVCD starts opening changed yyyyy.ecl

The open dialog I can see the filename begins with a space and X:\xxxx\CCE_Project_file.ecl.
And then the error dialog:

I've noticed that with versions 1.4c and 1.5 that commandline support for CCE 2.50 no longer works. It will create the vaf during the first pass for a RoBa encode, but during the second pass it stops after making a 4 byte mpv file.

I reinstalled 1.4b and using the same code in DoCCE4U the process works perfectly.

@new_age: It's not a bug, it's a feature :) Reason is that the new version allows for selecting multiple ECL files in that Open dialog. As a result, it is no longer possible to enter a full path name there like DVD2SVCD does. This is a Windows "feature" I missed (the error message is generated by Windows). I'll release a new version where this new feature is optional (default off) and needs to be turned on in the EclCCE settings. Stick to 1.4c for the time being.

@BBWoof: Oops. I'll figure out where I broke support for the older CCE versions.

I'll work on both issues over the weekend.

Putting a filename within quotes is kind of a normal way of operation for CLI. Instead of creating an option to turn the code that is failing with it on and off, why not parse CLI to where you ignore delimiters within quotes until the next quote is reached?

Everyone seems to be so busy "giving you constructive criticism for possible improvements" (read: bitching about problems:D ) that I thought I'd take a moment and let you know that I just installed v1.5, used the "drag & drop" feature to add two ecl's, then saved them as one ecl, opened and closed all 3 ecls via the menu and drag and drop without a problem. It also ran fine, encoding 2 separate full length "movies" one after the other, allowing me to minimize it, change its priority and have 7 other applications open and in use at the same time (sorta' at the same time) on my ol' PIII-933 (no o/c) & 512MB SDRAM:) !

So, IMHO it works great! Thank you!

BTW, with v1.0.5 of MPEG2Dec3 and CCE v2.67.00.10 and NO "YV12toYUY2()" running in the background at "below normal" priority, CCE is running at .66~.70 which is a decent improvement from .55~.60 that I was getting.

that's exactly what I'm doing :). The problem new_age was pointing out is a different one and has nothing to do with CLI. DVD2SVCD automates CCE by simulating user input. It brings up the CCE Open Project dialog to open an ECL and enters the full file name to the ECL in the edit control. This does not work if the Open File dialog accepts multiple selections (OFN_ALLOWMULTISELECT) like in 1.5.

Sorry for the delay in answering you. Somehow I missed your question.

The short answer is yes:) . I should have been more precise in my wording. There is a significant (or what I consider significant:D ) speed increase (from ".55~60" to ".66~.70" without using "ConvertToYUY2" or "YV12toYUY2" AND "CCE" running at "normal priority" AND it is the foreground application. Of course it does slow down when you reduce its priority and send it to the back (or minimize it). But I did find it to be faster even with reduced priority and in the background (or minimized) unless I had 6 or 7 other apps running (in other words, really:devil: loaded down).

I attrributed the speed increase to 3 things: 1) newer version of "CCE" (v2.67.00.10); 2) not needing to change the colorspace and; 3) refinements in "MPEG2Dec3". "eclcce" has just made it much more convenient and easier to use. And IMO, convenience and ease of use can often be more important than speed!

I have seen this myself, but it is definitely not an EclCCE bug. Happens also when you don't run CCE via EclCCE. But IIRC I have seen it also when not fiddling with the bitrates in the advanced screen, it seems to be related to the final stream size, maybe a "2 GB barrier" problem.

Ah, it is Milan's ffVFW Mpeg 4 codec that is now doing the decompression. That explains why there is now a negligible difference in speed whereas before using DIVX as decompresser the speed dif was quite noticeable. I have a feeling this is already well known and I am behind the curve on the subject, but thought I would throw it in here for completeness.

Sorry for the delay :D ... The video decompressor is "DivX 5.0.5". I thought it should be since, following the instructions of an earlier thread, I'd put "VIDC.YV12"="DivX.dll" under the
"[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]" section of the registry.

As a sidenote, I'd previoulsy installed a codec called: "ATI.YV12.Planar.Format.Decoder.v4.10" (I have an ATI video card) which also worked but the video quality was terrible (blurry and jagged).

Well, EclCCE exits automatically when CCE exits. Are you sure all instances of CCE were gone when this error came up? Maybe there is a slight timing problem with D2SRoba in that it kills CCE and then tries to rerun it "too early". Ask Tylo to put in a delay like 1 second between killing and restarting CCE.

Some programs which, ehem, fiddle with the executable (not EclCCE as far as I know) will change the default to 3/4. This is actually a good thing because 3/4 gives you a GOP length of 12, which is the maximum GOP length that some DVD players can play properly.

This is the case with my player. If I use the default 3/5 the player has subtle problems, similar to on a bitrate Divx when you reach a key frame and the image changes slightly. It was most apparent in dark scenes.

(*) = PIII 400 mhz, DVD2SVCD 1.1.3 build 2, CCE 2.66.01.07, ECLCCE 1.5c.

Eache time, when dvd2svcd (through ECLCCE) launches CCE, the CCE hangs up (the app results blocked). And the DVD2SVCD also (the app results blocked).
The exact moment is after the first CCE window (the window in which CCE opens the avs file) is closed: CCE freezes and the OK button in the main CCE window disappears.

If I retry to relaunch CCE (through ECLCCE) using the DVD2SVCD recovery functionality (in the Misc Tab), after one/two times, CCE runs rigth.
I observed that if I move the CCE 'Open AVS file window', after it appears, far from the CCE main window, the bug disappears.

I tried on w98se and on w2000 the same (*) configuration and all runs well.

If you think the problem is not particular (of my PC) and If you need more information, I can send you.

Got a similar problem as mmatac.
When running DVD2SVCD, for first time, and it calls CCE through Eclcce, there is a error window that pops up, indicating CCE did not start in a timely manner. This requires exiting CCE and DVD2SVCD, and doing a recovery. When the Eclcce starts CCE this second time, all works fine.
Is there a way to lenghten the timeout function that will allow CCE more time to load into memory, on the first execute? :p

I encode my anime episodes at DVD resolution and bitrates. I used to do this with avisynth 2.08 and cce 2.50. I created the vaf file, and after that I aborted the encode and changed the bias to 0. When I clicked encode that time, it started doing the first pass for creating the mpv file.

Now I am using cce 2.67.0.10 and avisynth 2.52 with eclcce. When I create an ecl file, and do the first pass for creation of the vaf file, I abort the encode after this pass. I then change the bias to 0 and hit encode. But the freakin prog starts creating the vaf file again

You need to change the VBR multipass setting from "Create new file" to "Use existing file", it's right next to the number of passes.

This doesn't have anything to do with EclCCE.

I have found a problem in EclCCE 1.6: when the encoding is finished, the PC, instead of shutting down correctly, simply restarts, like if I chose to close the current session of Windows and restart with a new user, and stays there waiting for me to put a password in or to click Cancel.
I'm using Windows ME, CCE SP Trial 2.66.01.07 and I don't use login and password for different users (I'm the only user of this PC).

Maybe the shutdown function called by EclCCE works in a different way on WinMe than WinXP?

Yes, usually I turn it off via the start menu, some other times with the power button, but always works...
Very strange...
Anyway I selected the option from the window where it shows the encoding statistics, and there was no other program open. It was a 4pass encoding and the priority was set to normal.

The problem happened all the two times I tried to use the option.
When the count down window closes the desktop is cleared and the log on window appears, it doesn't restart everything like when you chose the restart option from the start menu.
Hope this helps.
Anyway I'll try to make some other experiment and see. I'll try to write a little program in C++Builder and see what it does:cool:

OK, I did the tests...

I did a little encoding in CCE and after it the login window popped up again.
So I investigated with a little program made in Borland C++Builder 1.0. I checked the Win32 Reference help guide provided with it. What it does is just enable a timer that decreases an integer, when it is 0, it calls a Windows API function.

Test 1:
With ExitWindows(0,0) the desktop is cleared and the login windows appears.
(it was the guide to say that the two parameters must be 0, see below)
The program isn't even closed, and the timer goes under zero ;-)

Test 2:
with ExitWindowsEx(EWX_SHUTDOWN,NULL) the PC was correctly shut down and turned off.

Test 3:
with ExitWindowsEx(EWX_POWEROFF, NULL) I get again the login window exactly like Test 1.

Test 4:
with ExitWindowsEx(EWX_REBOOT,NULL) the system was restarted correctly.

Test 5:
with ExitWindowsEx(EWX_LOGOFF,NULL) again the damn login window, as expected.


It seems like that Win32 Reference I have is outdated with WinME (ehm... it speaks only of Win95 :D) as the first parameter does not always work as its name suggests. I checked the winuser.h sources and I found these declarations:

Right, EclCCE uses ExitWindowsEx(EWX_POWEROFF, 0) to shut down and power off the system. It looks like your system does not support the (software) power off feature. I used to run W2K and CCE 250 worked like a charm, upgraded to XP about 10 months ago and that was the last of DVD2SVCD with CCE for me. (any ver) I used TMPGEnc for about 6 encodes then got pissed off with time and quality so I spent the next 7 months configuring dvd2svcd & CCE with no luck at all, finally last night I installed CCE2.50 to a new folder in the same dir as CCE 2.66.1.7.well fuck me, tests 1 thru 4 were flawless!So I got brave and tried 2.66.1.7 with the new ecl 1.6 and ripped a small chapter from Spiderman.It worked perfect. un-installed 2.50 and tried the same test and same old grief, about 10,000 loop errors pop up till I crash,lol.Re-installed 2.50 and 2.66.1.7 is working just fine after I ran force aspi again,odd that it said drivers were gone and aspi chk said they were ok but dvd2svcd said not found.Drivers were run, rebooted & CCE is auto everything,lmfao! CCE is 18 hrs for 4 pass VBR compared to 46 hrs with only 2 pass VBR in TMPGEnc, I'm a happy camper even if I have to run force aspi before starting a new project everytime. Any idea's why this is? Or how to get dvd2svcd to see that winaspi32 4.60 is really there and working?

When you want to use a different version of CCE with EclCCE, make sure to delete EclCCE.ini and run EclCCE manually once to have it pick up the new CCE executable.

I think you are talking about the "Try decoding in ..." setting in CCE. This has nothing to do with EclCCE. If that works for you, you must have some external codec installed that decodes the video so CCE can still read it. In DVD2SVCD, CCE Advanced settings, what did you choose for the color space conversion setting?

There is no way to achieve this, except through the GUI. E.g. creating a shortcut with batch arguments, and setting it to start minimized does not work. (I guess this is because CCE opens an encoding window, which is the one that should be minimized). Maybe that makes it tricky to implement?

Specfically, I would use this feature for the D2SRoBa plugin, so I can add a "Silent" mode where D2S and CCE runs minimized. (D2SRoBa executes CCE itself in batch).

I actually added this "feature" in 1.5b IIRC. This needed to be done because of the way EclCCE is (and needs to be) coded, running multiple instances of it can lead to the instances interfering with each other, which will confuse EclCCE. I'll think about a possible solution in the next release, however. And no, there is no INI option to turn this off. Tylo likely refers to the ability to select multiple ECLs in the Open project dialog.

would it be possible to add a bitrate tweaker in which you'd be able to tweak the bitrate anywhere in the video clip, not just in the end? I've had to do this manually with my Star Trek : TOS captures where the first credits are near the beginning of the clip. I always cut the end credits off.

EclCCE does not seem to work on a Japanese version of CinemaCraft (or, more accurately, running CCE on a Japanese version of Windows). It at first appears to, but saving does not work (it gives no error, but generates a .ecl file that's empty after [item]) and none of the added features are present (d'oh!) I have no problem running CCE in English instead of in Japanese, but doing this is not achievable on a Japanese version of Windows (thankfully, I'm using the Windows XP MUI, so it's not a disaster, but it's still annoying to have to log off and on each time to switch). Maybe there's a switch or some possibility of adding a hack that tricks CCE to run in English? I'm using CCE SP 2.67.00.11.

Why don't you just minimize to tray? 'cause the nature of the d2sroba process does short x% samples multiple times so CCE is popping up many times in this process. So, even if I minimize it, it always seems it pops up right when I hit a key typing. What happens then is the whole dang machine shuts down right in the middle of a long reply losing a lot of work. Hey, if it is a hassle, not to worry.

I can't decide whether it is an EclCCE bug or a DVD2SVCD 1.2.1 b3 bug. (Using CCE 2.67.00.19 or 2.67.00.20)

When DVD2SVCD uses EclCCE to load the modified ECL file the bitrate settings (and maybe other settings) doesn't change. If I press stop on encoding dialog and then manually load the same ECL file it works fine.

Just a guess: maybe DVD2SVCD starts encoding to early and EclCCE can't change the settings?

With earlier versions of this tools (DVD2SVCD, EclCCE, CCE 2.67.0.x) this worked fine.

I ran the new script and yes (I first ran Ecl once).
I was trying to make a back up of finding nemo.(So the kids don't ruin my DVD, like they have with the rest of them )

unfortunatly I try to use DVD2DVD-R and have a pb.
after ripping and using dvd2avi , dvd2dvd-r wants to load CCe via eclcce.
At this time i got "unable to find the CCE window" , error 87 : the parameter is incorrect.

When I use eclcce 1.7b and CCe 2.67.00.23 apart (without dvd2dvd-r) everything works fine.

I got the same pb with 1.7 and CCe 2.67.00.11

Well that fixed it, for the moment. Now when I try to open CCE, it opens, and no GUI comes up. Shows on taskbar/taskmanager, but I can't get a window.

Right-click the CCE taskbar item, select "Move", use cursor keys to move CCE window into view. Looks like it's off-screen.

When I try to open or save an ecl my CCE windows just closes down. The EclCCE.exe file goes away in my task manager also. When I save an project I get a .ecl file but it has a 0kb size. I have tried 2.66 and 2.67 trial versions with 1.7b and now 1.8. Is there anything else I need to do?

Hi I downloaded your latest version 1.18 but now when I run CCE 2.50 the Cancel button is always visible, also when I use -nocancel (cmdline) or HideCancel=1 in your ini-file.

When I use CCE 2.67 the Cancel button is hidden.

In version 1.17 the Cancel button of CCE 2.50 was also hidden with these options.

Can you tell me why that is?

I have 2.66 trial installed and was trying to use it with DVD Rebuilder. When DVD Rebuilder brought up CCE I couldn't see the window at all like CeanD. But CCE looked like it was encoding. I uninstalled CCE and deleted the registry entrees then reinstalled it. Now when ever I try to open or save an ecl file CCE just shuts down. The CCE and EclCCE exe files go away in the task manager. Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and still get the same problem.

However, I cannot reproduce the issue with opening and saving ECLs here. Tried 2.66.01.07 and 2.67.00.23. What OS are you running? Do you get the file open/save dialogs at least? What kind of video files were loaded into CCE and how (drag-drop or added from File -Add menu)?

I wish I would have never un-installed CCE the first time because it looked like it was working I just couldn't see the window.

I am using CCE 2.66.01.07 trial with EclCCE 1.8. I am using Windows XP. I am trying to use this with DVD Rebuilder.

If I have any file in CCE and try to save the project CCE closes down. I get a 0kb .ecl file. If I try to open an .ecl file CCE closes down. This happens not matter if I use the menu to open the file or drag and drop method. I have tried to open the .ecl files from DVD Rebuilder.

I can't understand why it wasn't doing this before and after a re-install these issues popped up.

Hmmmm, very strange. I just cannot replicate this here. I'm using XP, too. So you are saying that when you click the little disk icon in the toolbar to save an ECL, it immediately shuts down, no additional dialogs like the common "Save As" Windows file dialog?

A very minor request for version 1.8a: I notice that the checkbox "Shutdown after encoding" seems to be a default button (DEF_BUTTON), which makes the mouse pointer jump to that button when you restore it with a single click in the icon tray (that is if mouse 'Smart move' is enabled - very common). A double click in the tray will therfore often toggle shutdown! Could you make it non-default? Also, a shorter label and width of the button would make it less likely to be checked by mistake. /Add: Removing the shortcut (&Shutdown = Alt-s) would help in that respect too.

/OT: Also thanks for the M2VRequant port you did. FYI, I now bundle it with D2SRoBa (source also). Did a fix, and a few mods:
- made output file non read-only
- added support for streaming (std in and out).

PS: I did use your old M2VRequant build, and I know its a little outdated. However, Nic doesn't seem pleased with the latest versions of Makiras engine. Rejig 0.5e is from December last year, and the source contains 3 different versions of the transcoder engine. Rejig is quite big - I only need the engine with command line support. I guess I should ask Nic what to do - maybe I could pull out the "best" engine from his source. Finally, I never need to shave off more that about 4% (ie. compress ~ 96%) which seems to give real nice results even with that old version.

Manolito - ye basically what Nic said. for shaving 5% or so off it should be hard to pick any difference. however at low bitrates it still may be possible in which case the 1 of the tweaks which is in 1 of those test files should be better, maybe.
I also tested the two tweaked engine versions by Dragongodz, but could not detect any visible difference. So I think your original Requant port is just fine for D2SRoba.

Hey DDogg, this is getting funny, I've been thinking about this, too. Is it just the command line processing in the various ReQuant incarnations that does not let us increase file size, or is this due to engine restrictions?

I tried to browse through the source code of RD's original Requant port, but it just made me dizzy. I've never been a "real programmer" after all, and I've always hated C code. :)

If this was possible it could sure make it even easier than it is now to fill the specified number of CDs to the limit without worrying too much about finding the right value for "Adjust %" in D2SRoBa. But it's already quite easy now, so I don't know if it's really worth the effort to modify Requant.

CCE-SP 2.67.00.27 finally fixes the infamous memory leaks with AVISynth scripts. No more memory leaks when repeatedly opening file settings dialog (chapter setting), no more memory leaks during multipass encoding. No AddAudio() tricks necessary anymore.

Yes, I got error too with latest CCE Basic trial and this latest EclCCE.
And I was using the 0.48 DVD rebuilder.

I installed the CCE basic trial (v2.69) and then copied the EclCCE 1.81 to the same directory. Then I just run the EclCCE and choose the CCE exe file. It goes without an error for a short while. After ~8 seconds there is an error even when I have closed the EClCCE. And I believe that the error was the same with the rebuilder too.

So maybe there is some incompatibility between the latest EclCCE and these new CCE codecs.

I have EclCCE v1.81 installed with CCE SP trial 2.67.00.23. I can save ECLs with EclCCE, but when I try to open one I get an error message "filename.ecl is not an ECL for CCE-SP". Does anyone know what this error is?

edit: I just realized that the ECL's created are empty. In fact when I load EclCCE, it will accept the AVS file no problem. But when I save the ecl, cce just quits. It creates an ecl file with 0 bytes. What's going on?

edit2: I lookd back in this thread and found that Brikin had the exact same problem described as me. I tried downgrading to CCE 2.66.01.07 but no go. I also tried the latest 2.67.00.27, but for some reason it won't accept my avs files at all (Cce just quits when I try to add one). My avs is a simple test one so it only includes Mpeg2source to a d2v file. I am able to encode the avs fine using either cce or eclcce, I am just not able to save an ecl file.

Okay, I solved my own problem guys. :D The problem had something to do with my Avisynth plugins folder. There must have been some conflit with one of the filters present, so I wiped it clean and started from the basics with only mpeg2dec3.dll, adding one plugin at a time. In the end I couldn't find that plugin that was causing the problem, but I must have had way too many installed before including many I never used so "cleaning out" your plugins now and again is probably a good thing.

Can you still run CCE through EclCCE.exe by itself. That is, just double click on eclcce.exe in Explorer. Does it work?

no :( it's not from DVDRB, really weird though it happens whit both 2.50SP/2.70.00.23, it have runned bfore whitout problems though on SP2 that is :devil:

Looks like I read someone saying that eclcce is required for the 2.70.05 version of cce. I tested this with dvd2svcd and it seems to be the case...

Can we hope that eclcce will be updated to support this need?

I agree with You Martin. eclcce is required for the CCE v2.70.05. I tried with DVD2DVD-R Professional 2.1.0 and there was warning concern eclcce.

@All: I'm still too damn busy with my job, so no updates for now :(. But again, since CCE 2.70 trial now has native ECL support, tools that previously required EclCCE should now work directly with CCE without any trouble.

I wonder: When installing DVD Rebuilder it says that EclCCE is needed for CCE 2.50 SP, but here it's said that EclCCE only supports 2.66/2.67 and...?

I had CCE 2.67 + EclCCE and used it with DVD Rebuilder. But then I wanted to convert an high-resolution AVI to DVD, so I downloaded the latest version of DVD2SVCD which should be able to resize AVI. But that didn't work with CCE 2.67, so I reverted to 2.50.01. Just made a quick test, but that seemed to work. Then I wanted to reconfigure DVD Rebuilder so it also should use CCE 2.50, but the configuration program says CCE 2.50 needs EclCCE...?

Edit: Never mind ( :) ) Tried reconfiguring DVD Rebuilder and it installed EclCCE for CCE 2.50, and the program seems to work. Either DVD-RB isn't then using the installed EclCCE, or maybe CCE works both with and without EclCCE.

Of course, then there's the issue of "what's changed" between 2.67 and 2.7. Can anyone point me at a thread, have any hints, etc. I'd guess that if it was as simple as updating the acceptable version number range at install, that would have been done already.

Is EclCCE needed for just the "basic" version - and maybe the "trial" version, or the full retail as well? I don't have access to the full retail (and would only have the trial version for a limited time...) but if someone wanted to hand me a "what changed" list I wouldn't mind implementing the changes into EclCCE (pretty easy to stand on the shoulders of giants, and all that...)

I've just downloaded a copy of CCE 2.7.x SP trial - and it seems to work fine with DVD Rebuilder.
If the Basic does as well, I'm not sure there's a lot of reason to update EclCCE

BTW, CCE SP is a discontinued product as of this last June (who knew?)

So... anybody know? Development environment for EclCCE was MSVC6 Pro SP5. It's mostly straight C code, I don't recall using C++ specific stuff much if any.

RB is just a genious ;)... i looked at the code and while i didnt totally understand it, i could figure out basically what it was doing. the code is too old to be .net . to add support for newer cce you dont really have to totally understand how it works.. just do more of what its doing. (the simple explanation of what the program does is interfere with windows messaging system to its own benefit)
