What is this new Macrovision nonsense?

Keep in mind, I know what the old Macrovision stuff was (modulated signals into the video to prevent copying), but is this the same thing or something completely different? Macrovision itself doesn't prevent DVD2DVD copies!? Unless they are talking about going from DVD Standalone to DVD Recorder Standalone?? Or they are just inferring that someone trying to drag the files from one to the other would fail, because the recording program would recognize the Macrovision bits?

Where did you get that info from? Maybe you mean DVD-9 (or bigger :D ) -> DVD-5. But DVD->DVD is very possible, the pirate plants in China, Eastern Europe etc. proove it quite clearly ;) . Not to mention the legal production plants.

that does look like its talking about Macrovision APS, but im suprised that Big Idea had a big enough budget for macrovision encryption.

Yeah, right. This is children's material, and we all know that means "premature failure" of the DVD. So what's a parent to do? Well, it seems to me they want to increase sales by taking every possible means to prevent you, the parent, from making a backup.

I haven't spoken publicly about MacroVision very much, but, to me, it is totally and completely useless as copy protection. I wasn't even aware that some tapes I have were "protected" as I (and remember, I used to work in broadcast television) always use a TBC (Time Base Corrector) or FSB (Frame Sync Buffer) when I copy tapes. And I just found out through experimentation that my two editting decks (Sony 696's) are not bothered by MacroVision. So who are they targeting? Not pirates, who would have equipment similar to mine, but average people trying to excercise their fair use rights.

There is a difference between

"dvd->dvd identical copies are not possible anyhow for dual-layered dvd's....."

and

"identical 2 layer dvd-> 2 layer dvd copy at home...."

And dual layer copying is really no magic or something special (if you have the right equipment you can also do it at home, so even your second statement is simply wrong). No to mention, that the pirate plants are not the only one I've mentioned ("does someone from the forum work there" is simply rude).
