Horizontal Lines In Random Scene Changes

I have used DVD2SVCD for a while now and have always had this minor problem. The problem is a singe frame of horizontal lines when a scene change occurs. The funny part is that it does it with every NTSC DVD I rip but not every scene change (this seems to be random). Except this random problem everything else is great.

After reading through a ton of posts (most pretaining to fast action scenes) I think it may be an interlace issue, which I only use "No Deinterlacing". Here is my AVS script and log file, any help would be appreciated:

I will bet it's interlacing.
Try selecting smartdeinterlace on the conversion tab and unfortunetly you will need to re-encode the video.

Thanks for the quick reply markrb. Everything I have read seems to point to interlacing. Aside from these single random frames everything plays great on my Pioneer standalone and PowerDVD. Oh, I also checked the ripped VOB files and they are fine.

The last thing in closing, the current movie I am working with I noticed where the problem occurs is when the scene changes and the video between the 1st scene and the 2nd are overlaped. I have not checked the other ripps for this scene overlaping.

Hi-

Those things usually occur during chapter breaks. So there aren't very many of them, but they are very noticeable and very annoying, since the whole frame is interlaced. I noticed that you Force Filmed. I don't know if you forced that yourself or if DVD2SVCD chose that method. But if you didn't Force Film and performed IVTC instead, they would almost certainly be taken care of, and it would be a better solution than just deinterlacing them. But of course you'll pay the price of much longer encoding times.

I did a film last night using SmartInterlace and the film came out perfect, going to run some more tests this weeked. Assuming that IVTC resolves my problem, which method do you recommeded for best speed and quality? SmartInterlace or IVTC?

Actually it's smartdeinterlace. Why would you want to interlace something? :)

It really comes down to being source dependent. I have done encodes when IVTC worked like a charm and others that it had little effect on. While the same holds true for Smartdeinterlace.

Examples. On Band of Brothers IVTC worked great.
On Kevin Smith's College Tour (director of Clerks, MallRats, etc) it made the video jerky and unwatchable. However SmartDeinterlace worked like a charm.

Another example. I did the extra's to Cat's Meow and with IVTC it came out horrible. With SmartDeinterlace it worked fine.

What I can't remember is whether I used Forced Film or not. I am leaning towards I didn't in all of the cases here.

When finished watch for jerkyness and make sure the lines did go away. If either of these holds true then try the other method.
