Hello friends, recenlty I formatted my computer and installed these codecs in this order:

Divx 3.11 alpha
Divx 5.02 basic
Xvid (from a file named "XviD-04102002-1.exe") I think it's Koepi rel.
Ac3 Filter

My question is:

Whenever I go play a xvid encoded movie, it plays a little blocky, unless I set windows (I am using Me) to use 32-bit mode. The problem is I like to use 16-bit mode in the desktop to have a good performance (my card is and AGP voodoo 4 32 meg).

Is there a way to have smooth playback using 16 bit?

Not with that voodoo card. You might try different drivers but i fear it's time to spend some money on a (at least) geforce2mx - they're cheap, less than 50 bucks.

Http://www.tdhq.com <--- they have the source code fore the Voodoo 3/4/5 and they are updating the drivers. trie them and se if you can get better 16bit performance.

Cult: What's this ffdshow? How does it work? Does it replace something in the system?

FFDshow is a decoder based on libavcodec (part of FFmpeg, a set of codecs for Linux), very stable and can decode DivX 5, XVID and others very good. Normally recommended for playing XVID, as XVID's own decoder is not allways stable.

Better yet, if you encode with an development XVID build and play with another decoder like FFDshow, you're "almost" :p sure it is MPEG-4 compliant.

Another play suggestion: use Vobsub and activate "Allways load" option.
Vobsub has very good and quick colorspace conversions and can help when you have video drivers/hardware problems with YUY2 / YV12 (colorspaces often used in XVID/DivX).

You can also try Omega drivers for Voodoo.
I can get 2300+ in 3dmark02 with a voodoo3 3000 on a 1800XP machine:devil:

They seem to like 32 bit mode better,its my video card in my capture rig.
