View Full Version : Video failure while using DVD2SVCD to convert DIVX AVI file to SVCD, but TMPGEnc dire

I have tried to convert a DIVX AVI file to SCVD with DVD2SVCD, with input AVI file checked. Everything appears to be functioning correctly until control is transfered to TMPGEnc. Then the preview window turns green. The final file produced also has a green screen only, with good audio.

:) If I use TMPGEnc's wizzard with the same AVI file, the resulting final file is correct. But this causes a manual split and creation of bin files.

most likely it is a problem with the divx file itself or the parameters your specifying in dvd2svcd.

you can check the divx file for errors using virtual dub.

however i never use tmpge for encoding so i couldn't really help you much in that department.

Try playing the AVS file in media player and see if that looks ok.

I am able to play the file with Media Player after downloading the DIVX CODEC. I will try Virtual Dub, but I have had problems with DIVX files and Virtual Dub in the past.

I am using the default parameters in DVD2SVCD, except I am choosing AVI in Misc.

What is surprising me, and I am very new to imaging, is that I think I am doing what DVD2SVCD is doing; passing the same AVI to TMPGEnc to encode. DVD2SVCD appears to be stripping the audio first, but still passing the intact AVI.

I can work around this, but I would like to get a better understanding of what is occurring within the two programs. Now I'm sort of hooked on finding the reason.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gramps

Following up, I brought my AVI file over a friend’s, who has Canopus ProCoder, and the symptoms are the same. Using DVD2SVCD causes a green screen video when passing the AVI to either Canopus ProCoder or TMPGEnc. On the other hand using Canopus ProCoder's Wizard or TMPGEnc directly gives great results.

BTW - I uploaded the latest ver of DVD2SVCD and that did not correct this issue.

I'm at a loss and hope someone has an answer.

Thanks,

Add

ConvertToRGB24()

to you avisynth script. TMP needs this colourspace to work. If you had been using CCE, you won't see this problem. Remember the brackets at the end, otherwise the process will be a slow one

If the above doesn't work, I know this is weird but you could try downloading the latest divx version. Perhaps some incorrect directShow dll or something is being loaded.

People have been having problems with DivX 5.03 files only playing with newly installed 5.03 codecs (i.e. not backward compattible).

I have been attempting to follow the suggestions given and have come upon an unusual solution. I opened the AVI file, as suggested, in Virtual Dub (Ver 1.47). I received the Windowz blue screen of death. Using VCSwap, I removed apmpg4v1.dll and Virtual Dub played the AVI correctly, but DVD2SVCD would not load the file.

Re-installing apmpg4v1.dll allowed DVD2SVCD to load the AVI file, but when converting I get the green screen and Virtual Dub failed. I uploaded the latest version (1.5) and both DVD2SCVD and Virtual Dub function properly.

I'm at a complete loss:confused:

BTW - I hope I've posted the changed subject properly, but if not I'll learn from Mark's heat:scared:.

I just wanted to post what I have so that others can correct similar issues and maybe help debug a great software package.

I had the same problem. An easy fix is to use cce if u have it. Cheers Will

Hey where is the heat here?

I never had an issue with your title in this thread.

BTW you don't have to change it as the thread shifts. The purpose is to explain the original problem.

The reason for being a stickler on titles is to help you on a future search of an issue. Imagine if you wanted to search for "cannot write to DVD2SVCD.ini" and every threads title was "please help me" or "I don't know what is happening". How would you possibly know where to start to see if the hit applies to your needs when you get 100 hits?

BTW I don't create the rules I only enforce them as I am told to by the owners of this board.
