Please shoot me.....there has to be a better way.....
i did lord of the rings 2 towers no problem, took like 30 hours, i cna live with that it's a 3 hour movie
But now i'm trying both die another day and cathc me if you can and runnign into nothing but headaches.
first off it's taking way too long we're talking 40-80 hours on a 1.2 gig amd with 512 meg ram. thats ridiculas.
here is my method.
i'm re-encoding cus i need to re-do the aspect rasio from 480 to 720 foro compatability, too many dvd players dont suport svcd resolutions.
so i make a dvd2avi project output through avisynth, load the avs in avi2mpg2vfw which shells out to bbmpeg 1.24 beta
rempg wont suport the input file as either the svcd or the avisynth due to invaldi resolution. and i can't find a verison of cce that isn't demo, (haven't looked, not asking)
it gets 70,000-75,000 frames in then just dies, it re-encodes the same parts over and over and over, using multiple quantizers. up to that point i get 3-4 fps, during that peak, regardless of source it plumits to .6 fps
then it eventually *a day or so later* speeds back up to livable rates.
even when it DOES finish the first tiem i just set an average bitrate and left min and max alone (9800000 and 0)
most of it looked fine then ti went to sections of stupidly low bitrates .5-1.5 kb/s and went to macroblock city, (quantizer 4)
then i redid it i set the quantizer to 3 and the min to 2000000, it completed (much faster) but overflowed, and said buffer underruns detected, and studders on stand alone dvd playback
so i re-encoded again, or tried to, with a max of 7000000 a min of 2000000 and a quant of 4, still 4300000 average.
i haven;t had one sucessfully complete yet without me stopign it in frustration or a system crash.
i know i'm doing this an evil way and ther ehas to be somthing the pros do that i'm missing the boat on, though now that i type this an idea hit me.
couldn't i use dvdpatcher to modify the stream from 480x480 to 720x480 for re-mpg to work, then output 720 video? rempg is pretty quick,
tmpg and my system dont seem to get along otherwise i'd go that route...thats a good progrm, i really need to get that working
