Anyone interested in posting some information on what movies and which % they used for transcoding the movie file and what the result was (good/bad/ugly).
Also what was ripped and what not.

I myself have backed up 2 of my movies so far (Bedazzled) and (Gone in 60 seconds)

Bedazzled:
On Bedazzled I kept everything from the original DVD and left the main movie at 100%, 50% for the extras

The main movie was in the original super quality.
The extras at 50% looked like a bad VCD disk (ok with 50% for me as long as its not the main movie)

Gone in 60 Seconds
Everything exept german/spanish/russian Audio was kept.
Main Movie was set to 80%
Extras where set to lowest 30%

Movie at 80% was really nice in my opinion (way better then my old SVCD disks)
Extras at 30% looked like a bad VCD disk not much diffrence from the 50% that I used on Bedazzled.

Conclusion so far as my opinion is that Im satisfayed as long as I have a SVCD like video Quality.

Well, I used to do SVCDs and the reason why I'm doing DVDs is because I wanted...no...demanded better quality. You and I pay a lot more money on DVDRs than CDRs and don't forget about your DVD burner. With the $ you spent till now, you should demand more than SVCD like video quality.

Just my 2 cents.

Well I must agree with you on the most parts.

When movies are longer then 130min then no matter what you do you will always lose some quality.

Especially with movies that are around 3 hours.

Then if you want to keep the movie on 1 disc you will loose video quality and the movie will be about the same quality as a SVCD.

Yes you could put the movie on 2 discs but thats another aspect of the whole process !

I rather have good quality (SVCD like) and keep the movie on 1 disc
