I hope these few tips offer help to newbies but I would also like users of IC to post their own tips & solutions to problems they have come across to get better results using this great program
I only have one question at the moment using IC (7.0.0.91)
how come all files when estimated size is 4.32gb in IC end up being around the 4Gb mark? (roughly 8% smaller than predicted), even when I dont remove anything using IC, this wasted 300Mb is obviously gonna affect the average bitrate *& quality of the main movie file. I have to run IC 1st just in case it get's it right!, then run IC again when it doesn't and oversize it by around 8% (4.7Gb seems ok for me, but still short!)
My tip's are (not in any particular order of importance)
1. try to use seperate physical Hard Drives if possible when using IC or any other program like PDI2ISO or PDIXTRACT, increases speed of processing
2. if you do wish to get rid of FBI warnings/Logo's/trailers etc at beginning of DVD use the MENU/VOB EXTRAS button and strip them completely as just using delete playback seems to make IC display Out Of Bounds warning
3. rip the complete DVD in filemode using DVDDecrypter(DVD Decypter has given no problems ever)
4. Instead of using IC to strip unwanted audio/subs/extras and you have time and are comfortable doing it, I think it's better to strip using Ifoedit and letting IC do the compression work. This also elimates the freezing menu problems when extras are selected using an IC strip file as Ifoedit does the job properly
5. it's always best to extract PDI files using PDIXTRACT/PDI2ISO or any other available methods and check DVD works using a software player before burning
6. 60% for menus and extras is more than acceptable(50% is also acceptable but obvioulsly quality suffers). I keep main menu at 60% and drop the extras first if my main movie is lower than 60%. If movie is still low but you want extras just lower the extras to 40%, they will still watchable but again it goves more % to main movie file
I will add more tips or solutions when I remember them or find new ones out
