is there away of finding out if a movie of the net is interlaced or proggsive, reason is as you will no i am converting divx 3.11 codec to 5.02 so i can watch them on my kiss player in the divx 5.02 configure options it asked wether the frames are intrelaced or proggsive i have no idea how 2 find this out.

the divx movies i am converting are 1 cd, would you recomend me converting them to two cd,s so i can try to keep most of the original video qaulity, or should i choose 3cd and try and get a higher resolution. I am not botherd about 3 cd,s as i am going to burn them on a dvd-r which as you will no has loads of space.

if you recomend 3cd,s wot bit and pixles would you recomend me staying close to, on doom9.org the guide says

It's not a good idea to go much below 0.17 bits/pixel*frame
If you go for 1 CD stay close to 0.17
If you go for 2 CDs stay around 0.25
If TV bits/pixel*frame is below ~0.13 you should raise your bitrate (and go for more CDs).

wot bits and pixlels should i look for 4 three cd,s. do you no when i would use the pre processing source as well (light-strong) when would i take this in 2 account.

sory to hit you with so many ?? if you can answer all these then i think you should be working for bill gates lol.

thnaks again mate !!!

If that DivX 3.11 movie is downloaded then there's a 99% chance that it's progressive. Because any sensible encoder would deinterlace an interlaced source before encoding.

If you encode a 1-CD movie to a DVD-R, you won't have to think about filesize at all. Just do a 1-pass mode at 100% to preserve as much of the original as possible. No cropping/resizing is needed because that has already been done by encoding it to DivX 3.11, so don't upsize or donwsize.

Be aware that the Kiss player doesn't support QPel/Bframes/GMC (that I'm know of), so don't use those options when encoding.

I believe it supports b-frames but everything else you cannot use.

Kiss player support ALL DivX 5.0.2, DivX 5.0.3, XviD options, but NO GMC nor QPel.

( But ok for B-frames, ok for Psychoviosual, ok for VHQ, ok for de-activate B-VOP DX50 Compatibility in XviD, pre-processing,ETC... ).

Just pay attention to GMC, QPel, and avoid MP3-VBR. ( you could use "AviCheck" to see if your DivX 5 has GMC or QPel in it. It works with XviD but only for GMC... Qpel is not detected in XviD )

And of course, it's better to use DivX 5.0.3 or XviD; so you'll have a complete control on the MAX bitrate , which should be inferior than 3'000 according to KISS, and Inferior than 4'000 according to DivXNetwork.

And aim 640xXXX as resolution if you want to avoid black-borders left/right. Or 496xXXX and use Zoom x200 of the Kiss Player.

P.S.
You can find AviCheck on SigmaDesigns www. It's bundeled in XCard drivers.
Or you can take it directly from here : http://seewen.levillage.org/download/AviCheck.rar
