View Full Version : InstantCopy does not like SMP

Like everyone else I've been trying InstantCopy but I was having problems with the program freezing.
I am fortunate to have a dual XeonHT system which provides my O/S with 4 virtual CPUs.
If I force InstantCopy to only use a single CPU, by setting its affinity to one CPU then it works perfectly.
It's a shame I then have 3 idle CPUs but I guess I could run 4 instances of InstantCopy at the same time;)
Thought this info maybe useful to someone else.

Thanks. I have considered a dual setup for quite some time, but was scared away with all the AMD 760MPX problems. Its a shame there are issues with Xeon systems too.

I haven't had any issues with the demo or the retail version on my dual AMD 2200+ MPs or my dual 2.8ghz XEONs. Running WinXP SP1(a) on both.
It doesn't take advantage of the second (or third, or fourth) CPU, but I haven't had it hang-up or crash on me.

I haven't been able to get InstantCopy to work on my dual processsor HP Kayak XU800. (It works fine on my single processor machines). But I wasn't sure if the problem is because of the dual processors or because of the video card (Oxygen GVX1).
Whenever I try to run InstantCopy, it hangs after only a minute or less.
Where do you set the affinity of the program to 1 processor (I am running Win2K)? I guess I'll try that first.

Bring up Task Manager, right click on the process for IC7... You should see where to go from there ;)

Works fine for me, dual 1800xp's, 760MP, 1GB RAM, win2k SP3.
Still only uses one processor, tho. This program is certainly _not_ multithreaded.

Tried demo and retail version.
Works fine with my dual 1600XP's, Tyan S2460, 512MB RAM, WinXP Pro.

Works fine for me as well. Dual 1600MP.
Average movie takes just over 2 hours to encode on my machine, but on a friends P4-1800 it takes over 4. Seems like dual helps, even if it's not specifically coded for smp.

Thunder K 7 with 2x2400s, works fine
MSI 694 D Pro-AR with 2 x 933mhz P3s, works fine.
Neither hits > 50% (i.e. one CPU usage), so not SMP aware.
My bud Hooz from 2cpu.co* hasn't mentioned any problems with SMP systems either.
