Season 1 Volume 1
i just been reading its doin it with other people and certain dvd`s too.... Happening in same place each time
AppName: multicopy.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.91 ModName: vobtrans.ax
ModVer: 1.0.0.29 Offset: 00031ce8
Cant be expected to be 100% bug free on first release.
no pc util ever is.
Tried 2 different machines and 2 different readers to rip.
Will try that "iso and mount" method when i get time.

I will test overnight and post the result. Are you using the standard setup, or doing something custom? Is this Region 1? Are you writing to blank media, or .pdi?

I had a crash in vobtrans.ax everytime I tried doing Bond-World is not Enough. I got about 5% & CRASH.
I re-ripped it in ISO mode using DVD Decrypter. I mounted the iso using Alcohol & then ran IC on the mounted drive. It worked okay that way & produced a working copy. FWIW.
**update**
Just to add, I didn't let IC burn the output, just write to the HD. I used the tools posted here (pdi2iso & pdixtract) to burn the disc with Nero. That way I could add an AUDIO_TS folder and a disc label, as well as check it for playablity before burning.

I've successfully backed up one movie but have had troubles with the other 2. I tried to do another movie but during the burn process (at the 11% point), InstantCopy reported it "Couldn't find the buffer...", so there was a coaster. I tried again, creating an ISO instead of a direct burn, and all went well. I used another program to accomplish the burn.
Yesterday, I tried to backup Unfaithful (NTSC). It crashed farily close to the end of the transcoding process -- 86% completed. I got the same error that I've seen others report:
AppName: multicopy.exe AppVer 7.0.0.91 ModName: vobtrans.ax
ModeVer: 1.0.0.29 Offset: 00031d1b
This morning I again tried to backup Unfaithful, but got the same error at the 24% point during transcoding, so it wasn't at the same spot as yesterday.
In all cases, I ripped the files to the HD using DVD Decrypter and did not modify any of the files. I'm using IC trial and have not performed any modifications. In all instances I selected only English for the Audio and only Englsh for the subtitles, meaning I left both unchecked. Everyhting else I left on automatic. I'm runiing a P4 2.2 on Windows XP Pro. It is a very stable system with nary a wayward peep from any other program.

Have you tried ripping it to an ISO and mounting the image? Then running IC against the image?
That was what I had to do to get Bond to work. It would not work ripped from "file mode". Also, I left everything on "auto" and did not remove anything.

Thanks... I'm going to give it a whirl later on and will report the results based on transcoding the ripped image.

ok...a user emailed me and said something to the effect if you have that online trancoding database thing checked...then the 2nd time you do the movie it doesn't go through the 5 phase thing analyzing the video. Also he noticed on popular dvds that it wouldn't do the 5 phase.
For me I've always unchecked that online thing so I ALWAYS have it doing the 5 PHASE analysis (takes about 10 mins or less). So here's my test/question to those. For those who have stated they have crashes is the 5 phase analysis being done? If it isn't uncheck that online database thing and run it again and see if you get a crash or not.
Will someone setup a sniffer and see what is shooting out when that online thing is checked?

ok it appears to be the culprit (well not sure but I'm guessing).
Take a disc that has crashed on you before and do the following:
--Open Instant Copy and UNCHECK online transcoding database which can be found under DVD | Advanced | General
--Close out Instant copy if it was open and delete
discdata.add
discdata.adi
which is the transcoding online database info.
it is in this path
C:\Program Files\InstantCD+DVD\InstantCopy\discdata
--As soon as you hit start it should display
Testing video quality part x of x (Phase x of x)
for main movie it should do 5 Phases...for menus 3 phases I think.

It didn't work from the image, although it did get to 88% this time before it creashed.
Mr Bass, are you saying to start from scratch again or are you saying there should be some sort of "recovery"?
You say...
As soon as you hit start it should display
Testing video quality part x of x (Phase x of x)
for main movie it should do 5 Phases...for menus 3 phases I think.
How is this different from what was seen before? Seems like that is what I always saw? I'll wait until tomorrow and give it another try with those files deleted.
Many thanks for the help...

yes you should always SEE testing video quality. Start fresh (That is we are try to figure out what's causing these crashes).
This is what I think is happening....say I'm the first person to transcode Spirited Away DVD and I uncheck VTS 02 and 03 and keep 01 (only example). So since this is the first time it's ever been analyzed it'll analyze only 01 and upload it to the transcoding online database.
Now joe blow does the same dvd but instead of having to wait 10 to 20 mins for his DVD to be analyzed it just takes less than 2 seconds to pull the data structure off the transcoding data database.
It sounds like a great concept. Like freedb or cddb for audio cds so users don't need to type in the title tracks. But perhaps this is causing the crashes perhaps.
Just so you know I could be way off and have no clue what I'm talking about but I think it's a thing worth pursuing. I can't really test it out myself since I haven't had any crashes otherwise I would.

I started up SG-1 Season 1 Volume 1 when I went to bed, and when I woke up InstantCopy was gone. No error, nothing, just gone. It looks like it died during .pdi01. I am trying it again tonight to see if it happens again.

That same behavior (InstantCopy just dies without notice--it's gone when you check back in the morning) is what I see when trying to backup Unfaithful. It dies near the end of the encoding.
I am going to try unchecking the "lookup" box, as has been suggested and try again...
(I already tried unchecking everything but the main movie--that didn't work).

Quad,
I'm not sure if you noticed my message above, but I've had the same issue w/ Unfaithful. This could be pure coincidence or it could be something inherent in this particular movie.
(1) It will be interesting to see if the unchecking allows you to accomplish the copy.
(2) It will also be interetsing to see if anyone else is able to copy Unfaithful (NTSC, which I suspect is your movie origination, too?).

Yup...NTSC, US, region 1.

I'm having Rocky Horror die for me. I came back and the application wasn't even running. I was doing file mode (because I edited it with Ifoedit first) and had the online transcoding checkbox checked.
I'm doing it again now with the checkbox off and against the original ISO image loaded with Daemon Tools.

The reason why you guys come back and see nothing is because IC crashed. After a while, the whole program will close itself. I tried Unfaithful also and it didn't work for me. It got to 88%. That's a little right after the Dare Devil trailer starts playing. Since I didn't reallly give a hoot about the trailer, I unchecked Title 4 (from what I remember) because it had all the trailers. Then I ran IC again. Again it crashed at about the same place. The thing that puzzled me was that why did it even process the trailer when I unchecked the box.
In another dicussion, someone said they had successfully backuped Unfaithful with IC but they had to nuke everything except for the main movie.
Perhaps the movie industry thinks that we are being Unfaithful to them so they made IC crashed. :(

Sorry I'm replying late to this post but, I tries my SG1 season 1 volume 1 Region 1 and had the same problem as The-PJ. (the iso method)
I started up SG-1 Season 1 Volume 1 when I went to bed, and when I woke up InstantCopy was gone. No error, nothing, just gone.
Just a thought, SG1 has titles 1,2,3 in the same set of VOB's. duff stated that IC worked on Babylon 5 all discs, what is the structure of babylon 5, are all titles in the same VOB set or seperated?
duff
24th February 2003, 17:15
babylon 5 were same layout as most the episode ones i have encountered. 1 long vob set.
