video card with tv out

I have tried to find information on this topic at the varoius forums.
I hve recently installes a flyvideo300 tv card and a nvida card with tv-out. The graphics card is a Gforce 4 mx440.
I wish to watch recorded movies back on the tv using a composite out on the video card. I can record OK and get a picture on the TV of the computer with its windows. The problem is that when I start a movie file on the PC the movie shows up on the TV as one large solid purple square. When I shut down the movie everything else is ok.
Can anyone help to what I am doing wrong?

your problem seems to be a video-overlay problem. if you are using bsplayer (or similar) try to switch the overlay modes, if you are using wmp, switch to another player :-P generally i don't think it's a good idea to have two cards with a video out installed altough i don't know for sure if it does any harm.
