Canon GL-2 How to capture progressive?

How can i capture the video as progressive via the firewire? isnt this a progressive scan camera?

Yes, it is. You have to shoot in "Frame Movie Mode", else you won't get progressive video. The GL2 has three shooting modes: Normal Movie Mode, Digital Photo Mode, and the cinema-like Frame Movie Mode.

If you shot in "Normal Movie Mode", then your source is interlaced. You can't convert it during firewire capture, but you may de-interlace (which is not what you want, because you'll loose quality).

when i go to re-encode the avi to mpg it says its interlaced bottom field first :( I am using premiere to capture, is this incorrect?

I don't know Premiere that well, but I think you have to set up your project as progressive before you capture (not sure, though). Maybe you can also change the project settings to progressive (maybe it's called "frame-based" instead of "progressive") after capturing.

I would like to get the best. If you know of one that does progressive, id get it. But, i will try to setup my project to progressive to see if that works. I also have U-lead video studio, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, and Neo DVD 4 Plus.
