Close call, but it does appear DVD2One is inferior. Hard to tell on a frame though. One of DVD2One's problems is a fast flickering/shimmering of pixels between frames, which you can't see in a snapshot.

valnar,
Good effort, my opinion ? Too close to call.

No way you can compare the two, in my opinion, with stills. You have to watch it closely, but you still can notice a difference on some DVD's. However, the difference does not justify (to me anyhow) wasting another couple hours of burning w/ IC vs DVD2One.

1. You can't compare frames which are not identical (think of I,P,B structure !)
2. Don't compare I-Frames. Compare the most used B-Frames. They make your picture because they appear 70% of the movie. Or at least P-Frames.
3. Don't make screenshots. Extract tif or bmp.
4. Use problematic scenes. Dark and detailed or a fast move ...
5. For better comparison of still pictures take a normal shot and also a zoomed one (to 200% or maybe 300%)
Look at the upper right part of the red shirt - the bright area.
Also DVD2one used 10% more space. 10%.

so what's the best way to extract the pictures and how do you do it?
I have Star Wars AOTC with 4 versions to compare but want to extract the same frame from each (well actually a few frames as one frame is not enough to compare)
original/CCE/Instantcopy/DVD2One
cheers
p.s. would viewing the pictures in 16 bit not give a blockier picture than viewing them in 32bit mode, I wonder how many people have 16Bit mode turned on when viewing snapshots etc as a system resources saver?
cos it don't half make the picture look blockier when in 16Bit when I switch between the 2

Extracting is very simple (even with freeware):
- load your movie into dvd2avi (which is our decoding reference)
- let dvd2avi make a .d2v
- load that .d2v into Tmpeg, choose under advanced - source range your start frame (which is also your endframe) - then extract it with file - output to file - BMP.
This gives 24bit RGB BMP.
It would be best to view these files with 24bit, but there is no problem with 32bit or 16bit as well (if you do all pictures the same way).
I bet no average computer monitor can show 16 bit colours (65536 colours) at the same time.

I dont' think frames of any sort are really the answer. Its not like your able to catch individual frames anyway. A real test is posting a few seconds worth of footage from both.

:D
I can offer something instead if you are on broadband
start on this link and wait for the page to load, then click Previous all the way to no.1, so it's stores all the images in your browser
http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/frames/71.htm
then just simply press DELETE as fast as you can, (do not keep it pressed tho)to skip thru the frames, or just hit the back button on your browser with your mouse
not perfect but funny to see
