View Full Version : Order of Audio tracks in Scenarist

ok, I have a couple questions about the audio files, and dummy audio files for scenarist.

I've looked around, and found a lot of answers, but need a couple more.

I am backing up Bourn Identity using Trilight's guide.
Evey post I see talking about dummy audio files says that you just have to match up the order in your PGCs.

Now I might not have this problem, but I don't understand where you check the different audio streams for seperate PGCs.
if I check the IFO file in IFOedit, I see audio streams for a title, but not individual PGCs.
I'm pretty sure all my extras only had one 2ch 0x80 audio file, but I'd like to know for future reference.

The other question is that for the main movie, I have 4 audio files.
0x80 6ch (Dolby AC-3) English
0x89 6ch (DTS ) English
0x82 6ch (Dolby AC-3) French
0x83 2ch (Dolby AC-3) English director's comments

This is the info and order I read from IFOedit Title Set (Movie) attributes
from all the posts I've read, they always have their audio in order
ex.
0x80
0x82
0x83
0x89

so again, is there another way to read it, or is this the order I should use when importing to Scenarist.
And although this is only one PGC, do I have to fill in 0x81 and 0x84-0x88?
If so what would I use to fill them, since I have no PGC to compare to.

Also since I want to drop the French track, do I just use a 6ch fill file there?

Last question just to check.
Do you only have to match up audio between PGCs?
Meaning that you don't have to have matching audio for different titles.

This is my first post, but I have been reading the forums for a while,
and have successfully backed up a few (10-15) DVDs using the Movie Only method.

Thanks for any help.

i think you just need to leave it out, no need to put a dummy in for it, but try to remove the french button from the audio selection menu (if possible)

What I would do is use a dummy audio file for the french, language, in order to keep your dvd lay-out the same. For example you have 3 audio tracks:

track 1 english
track 2 french
track 3 director's commentary

Leaving track 2 out would mean that the director's commentary becomes track two and that the buttons in the menu do not correspond to the right track anymore.

So I would use a dummy and then edit the ifo, go to stream to of this pgc and replace the value you find there with 0 (it's in pgcity or so) (otherwise you're still able to select this track and don't hear a thing, because it's a dummy).

And you're quetion about knowing what stream is wich: if you use dvd to avi all this information is written in the filename t0 448 kb etc.

I thought all PGC's within a given VTS are required to have the same # of audio tracks and bitrate for each. But VTS to VTS can be different.

So, when you are looking at the IFO for your movie VTS, it's listing what tracks are present....which means those tracks are present for all PGC's in that VTS. Whether some are dummy or not.... you'd have to figure that out when you demux them and see they're really small compared to the other audio files.

The extra's you mention are probably in a different VTS so they can have different (or less) audio tracks than your main movie.

A note on Scenarist, it'll complain if you try to drop in a DTS track as audio 5 or higher.....meaning it wants DTS somewhere in the first 4. I'm still a little confused on what to drop in first. I've been following the order that's in the IFO and it's been working so far. Scenarist seems to label the DTS track 0x89 no matter what order I drop it into the track.

So, check the IFO. If you want to leave out a track, put a dummy in its place.

If you're not worried about language menu's working correctly, then you can leave out that track completely....but then you'd have to change audio's with your remote. Not exactly a backup when you do that; you've just screwed up the language menu and possibly others.

In your case, I'd drop in the 0x80 first, then the 0x82 second, then the 0x83 and last the DTS (0x89). You won't need the 0x84--0x88...they don't exist in your example anyway.

I don’t think that you have to use dummy audio/sub tracks for maintaining the structure of the original VTS. You only need to use dummy files for maintaining similar structure within multi PGC’s of the same VTS, in order for scenarist not to complain.

I think that the trick of using the audio/sub menu buttons correctly is that when you updating the ifo with IfoUpdate you should leave unchecked the copy audio and sub tables. That way your patched ifo will have the same # of streams as the original and then you can change the numbers of the streams to match the numbers you actually have in the VOB. Also note that you can’t use dummy file with seamless branching…

This is the only way I have found to make it work. I’m not sure if the guides specifically state not to copy the audio/sub info or not. Maybe one of the gurus can comment on that.

Take care,
