Hi!
I wonder if there is, or will be, Dvd-r disc with double layers ?
Many DVD movies (almost everyone) have double layers.
So if you´re to make a backup you wont be able to write it to a
"normal" dvd-r. The space wouldn´t be enough (4.7GB)

Currently none of the DVD burners are able to burn dual layer. Probably never will. Comercial DVDs are pressed and not burnt.
Only other choice currently is some of the dual-sided DVD-Rs, but they normally cost more than twice what just 2 DVD-R discs would cost. Plus if you make a coster on 1 side of a dual-sided, your down to only one good side anyways now. Safer to use 2 DVD-Rs in case you make a coster. :)
dual layer would be cool though!:D

i think there will never be dual-layer-dvd-r/rws.
you surely could develop the technology to burn such discs, but as long as dvds are the prefered media in the movie-industry, they just won't allow it because it would be way too easy to make 1:1-copys without throwing any features or quality overboard.

Afaik current DVD technology is a dying format anyway, most likely will be replaced with the Blue-ray Technology. (http://www.europemedia.net/shownews.asp?ArticleID=14999)

No. DVD+RW uses mixed characteristics of single and dual layer pressed DVD-Video discs in order to be compatible with existing players, hence it will not be possible to create a DVD+RW disc with two layers. This also applies to other recordable DVD systems, such as DVD-R, DVD-RAM and DVD-RW. No current recordable DVD format will offer dual layer discs.
