I think DivX 5.03 has a bug on the Postprocessing Settings tab in the Decoder Properties. Whenever I set the Quality Level slider to max quality...after pressing APPLY & OK. Then I re-open the Decoder Properties and it always resets to the 3rd notch! Is this a bug in the decoder or simply a problem that only I am experiencing??? Please try it for yourselves and let me know. Thanks.

ps. the reason I found this bug is cuz i found that the quality of my encodings were looking dull. so i decided to check the settings to find the quality setting set to the 3rd notch...and it will not go any higher. :( Any help is appreciated.

another thing i just noticed is that if you set the slider either lower or higher it will reset it self to the 3rd notch.

try this: open up the decoder properties and set the Quality Level Slider to another notch and click the Film Effect box...does the Quality Level Slider reset to the 3rd notch??? It does for me...and it's pissing me off. I think i will go back to ffdshow as a temp solution.

I have had this problem for quite a while, and it is one of the reasons I dumped the Divx decoder and got ffdshow. Fddshow is much better then the Divx decoder and has tons more options. If you want to keep the Divx decoder I have had some success by trying different cobonations of the apply, default and ok buttons. I think I also was able to keep the settings by changing them in the registry while the decoder was not in use. Although, I should say that I haven't done this with the 5.03 filter just 5.02 and before.

I thought for the settings to be permerment one has to set them from the start/programs/divx/decoder configuration?

I must check that later at home.

I use Zoom Player and it doesn't reset for me.

On a different note, I've experienced a new problem with ffdshow that I add to the list of reasons why I don't use it. I had a divx3 encoded episode and it had a slight aspect ratio error (I think it was 604x456) and I was getting flipped vertical. So I installed ffdshow to do the flipped vertical correction, guess what, it grabled the playback. I couldn't see anything. So I uninstalled ffdshow again. So no thanks. (In the end, I chose not to install a program that flips vertical and just re-encoded the episode to divx5.0.3 with corrected aspect ratio.)

It's a known bug, the only way to get the settings to stick is to adjust them from within your player.

Hi, there is a simple solution to this problem as described in the bug reports for 5.03 here, http://forums.divx.com/viewtopic.php?topic=46005&forum=13. If you hit pause while you movie is playing and open the divx decoder. This is really easy to do in ZoomPlayer right click and go to filter properties and then divx decoder and change it to what you want and hit ok and then play again. If you go back you should find that the post processing or whatever settings that you changed stayed and were not reset.
EDIT: You beat me to it dTb. :)

With no instance of the DivX5 codec currently open, hack the following setting in the registry. Next DivX open will use this setting. :D

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DivXNetworks\DivX4Windows]
"Postprocessing"=dword:0000003c

Values for various settings

60 0x3c Max
50 0x32
40 0x28
30 0x1e
20 0x14
10 0x0a
0 0x00 Min

I think postprocessing bug is just ja little bug... but there is another Brightness bug:
when you add brightness it works OK but when you try to set brightness level abowe 0 then you got 100% wrong brightness level:(
