Ok here the story:

I just got a new DVD player nothing special but it does some strange stuff… I think…
The player is a Cyber Home CH-402S (made for the USA) and it says it is PAL compatible (for the record).

The scenario:
All the hardware was purchased in the USA…
The DVD is from Poland PAL/all region…

Setup one:
Pioneer DVD Player (no model# of the top of my head)
27” Proscan (RCA) TV
= will play a PAL DVD (all region) that I have but will come out all gray and flipping like it is playing PAL on NTSC.
*This is what I expected.

Setup two:
Cyber Home CH-402S
20” Sony Wega (one of the early ones)
= will play the PAL DVD.
*why would a NTSC TV purchased in the USA play PAL?

Question:
Does anyone know if it is the DVD player that converts the PAL to NTSC or could my Wega be a NTSC/PAL model?

Ok I had some time and took the Cyber Home 402 and connected it to the NTSC Proscan (RCA) TV and it also played the PAL formatted DVD. So then that means the Cyber Home 402 can convert PAL->NTSC on the fly? And all this for $40

Does everyone know about this and I am that ignorant?

it could also mean that your pioneer dvd player doesnt support pal dvds.
i think its more common that a tv supports pal+ntsc than a dvd player that is able to convert ntsc->pal. well, at least where i live (PAL world), could be different in your country.
just try your pioneer player with your sony tv ;)
