I would assume that this is not possible due to the 486DX4 not having the multimedia extensions that are available now. However if it is possible, it would probably take weeks.

Lol, I still have one but is all in pieces right now. I would have to put it back together again but I think that it is possible to make it encode. I see no reason why it couldn't, it would just be amazingly slow thats all. I could install 98SE onto it which solve the problem of adequate support for various programs and formats. :D

Tomshardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030217/cpu_charts-26.html) has done a recent comparrison on 65 CPUs ranging from 1994 to present.
Might give you an idea of how long a 486 would take:eek:

i just gave away my 486 machine a year ago... would have liked to try encoding on it though ... only problem: this piece just had a 2.something gig hard disk :-P
