ProCorder is magic

Converting DV to perfect SVCD has finally become an easy task for me. Instead of all the agro I went through for years with CCE and TMPG, MainConcept (very good), etc., now all I have to do is drop my DV file on a droplet on my desktop (encoding preset at highest). Frankly, I am hard pressed to see any difference between my original footage and the SVCD. I certainly never thought I would EVER say that. IMO, nothing can touch ProCorder for interlaced NTSC footage. I don't offer an opinion about any other source except Interlaced NTSC. Anybody that has not, try the demo.

But, that being said, I ran into a couple of minor things I thought I could share. Using ProCorder 1.01.35.0 I found I have to do a demux and remux with BBMplex to avoid sync loss with fast forward on one of my old Apex machines (AD-703). For some reason TMPG tools is the only thing that will demux it without getting hung up. So I demux with TMPG,remux with BBMplex and then burn with VCDeasy. Everything is great now in DV>SVCD land.

I rest my case. I experience the same quality with interlaced pal. I tried everything cce (multipass 4x) and vbr tmpg. Procoder is better than those. I am speaking of DV. With analoge encoding I certainly preffer cce, and have no need to try Procoder, cause the results are very good. All of this is concerned with ecoding to SVCD

You can't tell a difference between 480x480 and 720x480 video? Look harder :D . I haven't tried ProCoder, but if it can make the process as simple as a drag-&-drop, it sounds good. I might give it a whirl.

In Procoder, make sure you selected "mastering quality". In this mode Procoder is excellent (but slow).

I had read that also, but with some video montages of stills I was doing the mastering quality actually did an inferior job to the default "highest quality". Montages tend to have radical transitions and effects so maybe that had something to do with it. BTW, on my old 1.4 tbird I tend to get about 10 or 12 fps in highest.

in the version of procoder i have, i can only use the wizard... if i try and sue the program after the first screen everything is blank

Is anyone encoding wit the 1.2 or 1.25 version? I am also using the 1.01.35.0 version. I heard the newer version are much quicker and better. I have a direct link so you can update. http://www.canopus.co.jp/download/drivers/win9x/procoder_upd125.exe

BB, I don't really share your thoughts on using Master mode in Procoder. I found little-to-no quality difference between "highest quality" and "mastering quality" for DV material. The only thing I noticed is that master quality takes ages to encode.

I"d rather stick with highest quality for DV (and even high quality for old 8mm analog camcorder tapes).

what version are u guys using?

the one i found does not fully work right... i can only use the wizard which kinda sucks! id like to see a nicely encoded DV with it but being able to set all the options and see the quality. it does a good job doing a CBR encode with the SVCD NTSC template.
plus im a student and thats a bit of money to shell out just to encode my DV. id rather spend that money on a DIVX machine for my TV and then buy the pro version of divx before i foot the 700 bucks for procoder.
