View Full Version : VirtualDub 1.5.0 + Win2K + Divide by Zero Error

Anyone else have problems with VirtualDub 1.5.0 running under Windows 2000?

1.4.13 and prior versions have worked perfectly. 1.5.0 loads, but the first time an attempt is made to select an option from one of the menus (i.e. File -> Open or Help->About, say) the program immediately crashes with a Divide by Zero error.

I'm using the non P4 build with an Athlon CPU. Same version works fine under XP Pro and XP Home. Removing contents of plugins dir has no effect.

Reverting to 1.4.13 fixes the problem.

Same with ME. P4 version crashes with zero divide error. normal crashed couple of minutes into an Nth pass encode with Divx. Logfile and mvinfo.bin apparently corrupted. Going back to older version for awhile I guess.

I have never able to get DivX 5.0.3 in N Pass mode to work reliably with VDub even before the 1.5 version; it frequently crashed with an exception at the very start of the second pass, so for some time now I've been using the old 2 pass mode, which works fine. I blame DivX Networks for that one! Most of my encodes are from first generation DV captures from a digital cable tuner and they're encoded at high bit rates so I don't need the N Pass function anyway.

As for my problem with VDub 1.5 crashing whenever I select a menu option, I've sent a report to Avery Lee and reverted to 1.4.13 for the time being.

I thought my .avs set-up may have caused the crash. Reverted to VDub 1.4.13, set 5 pass, and went to bed. The video ran all 5 passes flawlessly, looks pretty good too. I'll wait a bit on upgrading till more testing is done. I would imagine it is darn hard to anticipate every system configuration that a program as universal as VDub will be used under.

1.5.0 (normal non-P4 version) works like charm here on w2k.

Looks like it's just me then :( Every other application I have works without problems (including VirtualDubMod) so I assume that there was some subtle change made in 1.5.0 and I'm wondering if it's a bad DLL somewhere. Anyway, life's too short to spend time worrying over it. There's nothing in 1.5 that I need so I'll stick with what works.

Thanks for the feedback.

no i got it too today (W2k, non-p4)

do this, launch vdub and go to video --> compression --> crash

i'm stepping back to 1.4.13

well, in my case when i select DIVX 5.02 pro as compresion method Vdub (or Divx) crashes at the last frame of the encoding.
This wasn't happening with 1.4.13

Hmm... I've had no crashes so far with 1.5.0, and I use DivX 5.0.2 all the time. (However, I'm on Win98SE.) Is there a crash report?

Here you go (note: even though the thread trace mentions p4root, I can assure you that this is from VirtualDub.exe for non-P4)

For me this crash happens every time I select an option from a menu, not just Video->Compression :)

I see! The PositionControl code is crashing. Avery Lee (phaeron) already knows about this and has promised to fix it in VirtualDub 1.5.1. If you need an immediate fix, look here:

Thanks. Good to know I wasn't losing my mind :) I'll hold off for 1.5.1
