I was wondering if avisynth has a way of generating colour bars that have a portion that should not be seen. What I mean is, some playstation games for example have a colour bar screen, and it'll say something to the effect of anything below this line should not be visible, if you see anything below the line, adjust accordingly.

The reason I bring this up is because of relying visually on overlay. Specifically with Nvidia cards. I used to have a voodoo 3 card and the overlay setting was a default of 1.03. When playing a video, there would be a pause and then you could see the overlay kick in and be a little brighter. I just adjusted it to 1.0. But video with nvidia cards appear extremely dark. I have my overlay setting at something like 145% for my geforce4. This is why I would like colourbars with a range that should not be visible to adjust it.

But even ignoring overlay, what is it with nvidia cards, if you have a clip of dvd in vdub for example, some darker scenes are barely visible. I've just gotten used to ignoring that and knowing overlay would take of it on playback, or using a temp brightness filter in vdub just for editing.

Is there any solution for this besides, blasting the desktop brightness so high that the whole desktop looks washed out?

Alright, So I was probably reaching to see if Avisynth had a cmd for this and probably should have posted in capturing or hardware section. But doesn't anyone notice that with nvidia cards seeing video content is highly dependent on your overlay settings? I might have just thought it was my card, but I've seen this on my friends tnt2, a geforce 2 and my gf4.
