After Instantcopy has made the .PDI file you either have to burn it on RW to check it works b4 burning to a proper DVD or just take that chance and burn straight away
No more!!, now you can

1. Preview DVD before you burn
2. Make any adjustments to anything you want
3. Choose which software to use to burn it
4. Add the AUDIO_TS folder
5. Basically anything you want and it takes less than 5 minutes to do

all you do is downlad the ULTRAISO utility here

http://www.ezbsystems.com/index.html

only a trial but it does the job so well worth buying In my eyes to save coasters

basic instructions
install then goto open file and change it to all files and you can then goto the 1st .PDI file & select it and it loads it up and you will see the VIDEO folder

then just extract it to another folder and viola you have an editable copy of the PDI files

NJOY, as you will now save a fortune in wasted discs, I think you may also be able to use InstantCD in some sort of way to extract PDI and there is a 30 day trial available also

feedback appreciated if it works for you too

just saved myself a DVD-R!

Simpsons Series 1 disc 1 was OK when I burned and played in DVD player, but that was before I was able to check if it was OK so chance taken paid off

just finished disc 2, extracted PDI and tried it in PowerDVD and only the first 2 episodes works out of the six using the menu!

If I'd burnt it I woulda had another coaster

hope this is as much a help to others as it's proving to be for me

UltraISO makes probs with the ifos ...

Just compare a burned disc with an extracted image.

Maybe it is not necessarily so but at least sometimes.

you absolutely sure?

I've just compared the burned disc to the extracted image on my 1st attempt using Instantcopy

and both are exactly the same size, date, time, same amount of files and the ifo files have exactly the same contents when I open them

no difference at all!

I think there may actually be a problem here.
Cant seem to burn the extracted VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files to a blank using Primo dvd because it makes the disk format dvd compliant and there is something wrong in the VIDEO_TS folder.
Can burn the Pdi image fine though.

Just tried Primo to burn the VIDEO_TS folder and again worked just fine!

How are you extracting files? I think that may have something to do with it as I extracted in two different ways and one way would not play in PowerDVD

the way that works for me is 1st create a folder I want to extract to then open UltraIso and click on the Folder icon (OPEN) in top left corner

then change File Of Type to All and goto folder with all the PDI files in

click on the 1st PDI file and you should then see the VIDEO_TS folder appear in the window

right click this and select Extract To and direct it to the folder you have just created

It will then seem to freeze the program but if you goto the folder you can see the files being extracted into it

after a few moments it will be finished and you should have an exact copy of the Disc contents if you had actually burnt with Instantcopy and extracted the disc contents back to your HD

this method works fine for me so far, but maybe it's not the same for all DVD's, but I hope it helps some people

I'm gonna try using InstantCD trial to see what options that gives also, as that supposedly can read PDI files also

Do not use UltraISO for extracting the VIDEO_TS from a InstantCopy image. I backed up Snow White and tried it. I loaded the VIDEO_TS.IFO into PowerDVD and the navigation was totally screwed and would freeze when clicking on an extra. I thought InstantCopy had screwed up, but I tried using the pdi2iso utility located in the forums and loaded the created .iso with Daemon Tools and it plays perfectly.
Good luck,

UPDATE:
I ran a CRC check on both sets of .IFO's and .BUP's .
On VTS_01_0.BUP AND VTS_01_0.IFO's, the PDI2ISO .bup and .ifo were identical to the .ifo by UltraISO. However the UltraISO .bup file was different from its own .ifo.

On VTS_02_0 through VTS_07_0, the CRCs of the .ifo's were identical to their .bups on all files. However, none of the .ifo's or .bup's created by ULTRAISO matched those created by PDI2ISO.

I'll now burn a copy of the original image file created by InstantCopy and compare the output of it's files with the files created by PDI2ISO and ULTRAISO. I'll let you know how it turns out.
dvdRENEGADE

UPDATE #2:
OK, I burned the original image and ran CRC checks on the created .ifo and .bup files. They matched the CRC's of the files outputted through the PDI2ISO > DAEMON TOOLS METHOD.

You'll need Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.net) to extract the VIDEO_TS from the .iso image and then you'll be able to create a new image with any DVD burning program you wish.
Good luck,
dvdRENEGADE

FINAL UPDATE
I checked the CRC's of all 33 files of Snow White, including .vob's. Most of ULTRAISO files did not match the CRCs of the original image burnt to a DVD. All of the CRC's of the PDI2ISO files matched the original's CRCs.

Good luck,

P.S. There's a new version of PDI2ISO in the following thread.

strange how they are the same and it's working fine for me

did u use the extracting method I posted above when you checked the files? does this have something to do with it?

It's quick to check also, in InstantCopy just choose the menu and uncheck everything apart from menu or a small file, takes about 10 seconds to process on a small file (40MB, or any other small files just so you can check

then you can extract PDI image and check results, both the same all the time for me whatever combination I try

I will now burn the small PDI image to a DVD-RW and check them again with CRC

thanks for info dvdRENEGADE but it's working OK for me so I'm happy for now as it saves me creating an image, it may be certain discs cause certain problems

what disc gave you the problems dvdRENEGADE?

did you try extracting the way I posted? cos I've just tried another DVD and get exactly the same ifo & bup files using the CRC checker

I ask because when I extracted using another method when I 1st used it, it wouldn't play the DVD in PowerDVD yet when I extracted using the above method played fine

you could open the ifo files then resave them and rewrite the bup files to fix them

tried UltraIso on 4 DVD's just now, using Instantcopy but selecting minimal files

Grinch & Stuart Little both R2
Simpsons Season 1 Discs 1 & 2 R1

all the UltraIso extracted BUP & IFO's are exactly the same using the CRC checker

so why does it work for me and not others?

just burnt a couple of PDI files created by InstantCopy onto a RW using InstantCopy. (you can also use CD-RW if you don't have a DVD-RW)

ran a CRC check on the files on DVD and the files using the UltraIso and both have exactly the same results

I have tried it with 2 CRC checkers just in case but still the same results

so I guess it does work, but not for some people

My friend has the Snow White disc (is it the collector's edition region 2), so I will try it using my method and then I will admit defeat if it doesn't work :D

this is just part of the result for the UltraIso
Filename: J:\extracted\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.BUP
File size: 30720
CRC 32: 318a7d9e
Filename: J:\extracted\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO
File size: 30720
CRC 32: 318a7d9e
and this if for the burnt DVD using Instantcopy
Filename: f:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.BUP
File size: 30720
CRC 32: 318a7d9e

Filename: f:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO
File size: 30720
CRC 32: 318a7d9e

all the rest are exactly the same too, but it would take up too much space to list them

MisterX,
There are several experiencing problems with UltraISO. Check out the following thread.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=262475#post262475

If you like it though, continue to use it. In the future, it may support the .pdi format, which is not a standard .iso.
Good luck,

I've read that thread and all the others

I've now tried 6 DVD's and get the same CRC results everytime, so how does it work for me everytime now with any DVD and not for you and certain others?

can I ask which CRC checker you are using so I can try it, do you have a link to it please? (maybe mine is incorrect)

I must again mention I too had problems initially but not anymore using the extraction method posted higher up in this thread

I am yet to try the pdi2iso file, but I'm sure I will if this method does not work at any time

:)

I think i know what the problem is. Haven't tried it yet but it's clear to me that everything after 1GB is corrupt. So do this in command line

copy /b test.pdi+test.pdi01+test.pdi02+test.pdi03+test.pdi04 new.pdi

and use ultraiso to open new.pdi it will most likely work. I think ultraiso supports that image type but doesn't support 1GB splitting that Pinnacle InstantCopy does.

worked a charm for me, but I updated the bup. files, just as a precaution
